Technical My Findings with P0235 Error Code

Mine was smoking a fair bit under hard acceleration. Will see over the weekend how bad it is!

Well if you dont have bones, and have a 6mm allen key as a finger then you could take off the pipe first (the bottom pipe, the side pipe's easy!!) You just cant get to it!

Best order is:

1) undo the two 6mm bolts on the RHS pipe - be careful not to drop the gasket.
2) undo the three 13mm Bolts that hold the EGR Valve, on mine I could only remove two of the bolts, the lower one has something in the way.
3) undo the clip at the bottom of the lower pipe - mine was a 5mm jubilee style clamp, and there is a washer in there, between the two pipes - make sure this doesnt fall out.
4) remove the loom connection, and pull the egr valve out with the pipe still on.
5) put valve in a vice and remove the pipe, but take note as to its positioning, because this needs to be the same to refit the new valve quickly.

6) upon refitting I found it easiest to fully open the clip on the lower pipe, put the valve in situe with one bolt inplace (remembering you need the lower 13mm bolt in place as you cant get it back in afterwards) and then slide the clip over the two lips of the pipes - getting the clip back on was the hardest bit.
7) put the remaining 13mm bolt in and screw them in but leave them slightly loose so you can fit the new gasket inbetween the valve and the RHS pipe.
8) reconnect the loom
9) put the new gasket in and secure pipe

And thats it - the bottom pipe is very fiddley, took me a while to figure out the best way of doing it, but everything else is fairly simple.

I ran the car up and checked for any leaks etc but all seemed fine.

jostheboss......

step 4 ; the rubber washer is there to retain the allen bolt from coming right out.Undo bolt enough so it comes out of the captive nut at other end of jubilee clip then open up the clip & remove with bolt in place.

step 5 ; use tipex to mark position of pipe;)

tipex? Commoner!

Next time i'd use a paint pen - much cleaner!! At first I didnt realise that the pipe rotated!

I wasnt referring to the rubber washer - there was another gasket style washer inside it all...

what does this washer look like? i didnt know there was one there when i replaced my egr valve and now i know there isnt one there. i think i get gas escaping when the egr valve is working so could be coming from there? :(

also recently i have had error 'boost pressure sensor something'. i know its not the egr valve as that is new. i have relocated and replaced the overboost valve and i dont thing the vac pipes are leaking. and the maf sensor seems to be working ok. i did recently clean the map and maf sensor.

so is there a boost pressure sensor and if there is where is it? or is it just another name for the overboost valve?

the problem i am having at the moment is in 4th/5th when i put my foot down around 2k rpm i feel judder and the car struggles to accelerate. then i get the 'beep beep beep'. if i put my foot down just under 3k rpm then al is well. 1st 2nd and 3rd is fine if not great.

any ideas people?

No you use tipex to mark it then scribe a fine 'exact' line on the tipex so you can put it on exactly the same position it came off;)

stilosporting......is at back of engine, held on by single screw, from memory it faces downwards on stilo.

so if you got the code p0235 and your only symptom was a slight hessitation in 4th&5th what would you do next. (take to dealers and sell are not an option :) )

hopefully i will have working diagnostic equipment to help with this.

Woo, P0235 is back!!

Thought it was down to the weather being wet the other day, and having not relocated the old overboost valve.

So this weekend I relocated the valve, hoping that it wouldn't appear again.

Yet driving down the M1 tonight, quite a few times under load I'd get the error message, but its not quite the same symptoms as before (where there was a loss of power)

New symptoms are purely the message, power loss isnt noticable, and as normal, theres a lot of smoke!

Should I try blanking off the EGR valve and see if that gets rid of the message?

When I plugged into a scanner I got P0235 - Boost Pressure.

Please help! xx!!

Check out the tubing very carefully to the overboost valve.

Look for splits in joins and also carefully examine any point at which the tubing is under stress (sharp curve)

Don't forget to check both the vacuum supply line and the tube that feeds the actuator.
