Hi all,

i have a 03 fiat stilo multiwagon estate, and up to recently the interior car heater was working fine,ie, blowing hot/cold air. now for some reason the heater, ie the fan, does not run at all, i have checked all the fuses, and not one is blown,
the lcd, display shows the fan speed as high, and the heater on the highest setting, but nothing at all is working, ie, no hot, or even cold air is blowing out of the vents.i have taken it to my local garage and they too have drawn a blank, i have disconnected the main battery and then reconnected it after an hour or so, in case this would reset it, but still to no avail.
Although strangely enough, the fan did come on today for about 5 seconds whilst i was driving home from work.
i would really appreciate some advise please,as iam absalutely freezing!!also if any one could tell me where the heater fan is, and possible diagrams on how to get to it so i could test it would also be useful please.
thank you.

check the heater fan connector to left of clutch pedal

thanks for your advise it is much appreciated, ps, i dont understand what you mean about " dont pm for advise post it on the forum" i am sorry but i thought this is what i was doing? if you could explain to me what is the proper way of seeking advise/posting questions i would be very greatful, as i genuinely do not know the correct way.
thanks.

not aimed at you but in general...keep it on the forum(y)

Hi Tetleys, I've got exactly the same problem as you. Except I have tolerated my fan not working for a lot longer, ie it's hot in the summer as there is no fan to blow the cold air from the air con and cold right now with no hot air being blown. The fan does seem to tick over tho' just enough to keep the screen clear.

Let us know how you get on with fixing it. I shall try T's response (he is brief with his answers but at least he does respond). Then it looks as tho' its a removal of the fan job.

By the way a PM is a private message to another forum user. The PM is 'off forum' and nobody else can see the message or response. Which isn't any help to the forum users in general is it ?
Cheers
Nig

Quite right, were here to help each another & to support the fiat cars we love so much:D

(I deleted the signature seeing it was causing so much confusion:mad:)

Well I guess you do have one or two more posts to your credit than I have ! and they are useful posts.
But I did say 'at least you do respond' and you have been a huge help to many Fiat owners who use this forum. Many thanks for that.

As for the Fiats we love, I'm afraid my love has run out. I am moving over to the dark side and ordered a Peoples Car. I have owned Panda, Uno, Tipo, AR Spider and now the Stilo with various Land Rover products in between (gosh I am a glutton for punishment). The Stilo has never let me down but there is always at least one niggling problem on the go at any one time. So I shall see if the hype about the Hun mobiles is true.

When it gets a bit warmer I shall have a look see fof the fan problem, perhaps a sqirt of WD40 will do the trick !

Cheers

where can i buy a new heater blower? please help!

Hi all,

Thanks to everyone who advised me how to locate and remove the defective heater blower/fan from my 03 1.9 Diesel jtd multiwagon.
i have tested the fan, by checking to see that 12volts are present and it is,and i have then removed the fan and connected 12volts to it and it still does not run, so iam assumming the fan is completely duff and needs replacing.
however, a new fan from the main dealer will be an absolute fortune, and i cant find anywhere else that sells this fan. IF ANYBODY COULD TELL ME OF WHERE I COULD PURCHASE THIS FAN, OR ANY OTHER NON GENUINE FIAT PARTS THAT ARE CHEAP/RESONABLEY PRICED I WOULD BE VERY VERY GREATFUL

Thanks.

Re: stilo heater fan, where to purchase? please help!!

Not a new thread please and posting twice for an ongoing thread. Just add to the existing one. I'll see if I can get a moderator to tie it all up:) ---> sorted by Stu

Its a specialised fan assembly so it's dealer only. Cheapest solution would be to remove it and have an auto electricians repair it. If you're into auto electrics it probably isn't difficult to repair as it certainly won't be worn out at that age

Just check for an open circuit, find out where it is and fix it

Always check the fuse and make sure power is getting there first though

Please, no more threads - this is the 2nd time I have had to merge it now...

Just keep it all in here, ok (y)

Can some one please send me a link to view how you remove a resistor pack and its location from a fiat stilo abarth heater.
Thanks very very much.

(ps its is the dual climate control version):worship:

Stilos with Climate control don't have a separate resistor pack to control fan speed like the maunal control ones.

Fan speed control is signalled from the control unit and the fan has this integral electronic speed regulation circuit board

First post from me and I'm hoping someone can help. I'm after a technical solution, not criticism/'advice' about how I could/should have done things differently.

My Abarth has had a heater problem (intermittently at first but permanent since the end of last summer) whereby it always blows hot air out of the passenger side vents. The drivers side isn't hot but is always overpowered by the passenger side. The A/C has been depleted for a couple of years since I paid to have it re-gassed and the garage did a bodge job on it which lasted only a few months.

I've been planning for a long time to get the A/C re-gassed again to see if it enforces some kid of system re-set or allows the internal sensors to fix the problem for themselves.

I had the system re-gassed at ATS today as they're local, they've just acquired new equipment and the staff have just been trained. They removed 280 grammes of refrigerant from the system and put in ~540 grammes.

The engine RPM changes when the a/c button is toggled - higher when on, lower when off but I can't hear a click from the A/C clutch. I can discern no A/C effect of any kind - in fact it feels slightly colder when A/C is off as the system selects recirc when the A/C is on.

The left/passenger side still comes out hot and the drivers side is ambient at best.

I've tried the Auto/Mono re-set a few times (I learned about it on this forum a few hours ago) and at first I was given the '01' code to show that the auto reset was unsuccessful however the last few times it is now showing the '00' code indicating that recalibration was successful.

The problem persists though (i.e. no change). I tried the HRW hold down diag and scrolled through the codes, these all appear to be system parameters (I am a Systems Engineer so recognise these when I see them) but there are 99 so reverse engineering them all would not be worthwhile.

Can anyone recommend what next steps should be?

I get the feeling that my next steps should be invasive - i.e. look for the mechanism that controls the heater flaps and see if I can unstick the hot/cold flap for the passenger side. After that if I can get consistent hot/cold on both sides I can turn my attention to what is going on with the A/C - or at least take it back to ATS (as I have a guarantee).

This is in some ways a nice to do (but shouldn't be), I love my Stilo despite its foibles. Fixing the A/C will make summer motoring more pleasant and once this one is fixed I can consider whether it is worth fixing the rest of the system's reported faults:

Rear left window anti-pinch failure
Alarm failure
Reverse Parking sensor failure (intermittent)
Passenger side light bulb (one of two is still working but I can't be a*sed to take the battery out just to change a light bulb when there is a working one in there)
Passenger air bag seat sensor failure (intermiitent - less often since I introduced a German e-bay box of tricks instead of the seat sensor but still needs the wires waggling occasionally)
It takes forever to warm up - probably thermostat but can't believe this is over £60 from FIAT!!!!
New rocker cover gasket - also over £60 so sealant might be the solution.

They're funny cars these Stilos - no wonder a car with so much equipment and potential is only worth a pocketful of cash compared with competitors. If only the Italians had specified their electrics correctly this would have been a great car.
