I was checking for damage underneath my JTD the other day and noticed this.

What do you reckon - has something fallen or been taken off ?

.....or is it normal because those screw threads look very shiny :chin:

well on the 1.6 there is a bracket located there supporting the pipework :chin:

Lets see what eper turns up (y)

I'll be back as Arny always says :D

Far be it for me to say but it looks like those thread holes are fairly fresh as if they have had a bolt in them recently. Surely the bolt holes would tarnish the same as the rest of the casting???

Then again, they are vertical and i can see a bit of soiling here and there....

That's my point exactly, so when are you going to crawl under yours to confirm for me then Lobster

I don't think it' a support as there's no sign of contact with the exhaust although those screw holes do look heavy duty - heavier than you'd expect for just a weather shield. I've had no exhaust work done since owning the car and I'm pretty good generally at noticing when things are about to fall off (would have been quite noisy I think)

On the other had with the car being so low I know its taken a real pounding. (smashed down really hard on some vicious speed ramps, dropped onto kerbs, bottomed out on a twisty stretch a few times and forced to 'drag' the car along a rock strewn rutted track )

Bit of a mystery

If it was due to bottoming out, surely the bolts would have sheared not just dropped out. It could be one of those post design 'cost saving' ideas that manufacturers decide to implement. I will have a look at mine in the morning. Might be different being a 3dr though.
