Hi,

I would like to replace my old rear lights with the facelift ones on my 2002 5door.

Does anybody know how the wiring in the plugs differs?

Thank you very much in advance.

Lars.

The main difference in the series 1 and two cars rear lamps clusters are the integration of the rear fog lamps into the cluster instead of being fixed to the tailgate either side of the rear number plate ..I wouldn't mind betting other than this the wiring layout is very much the same ..I'm sure Decks or rroope will come along and supply you with a wiring schematic of this soon ..

To show a wiring diag of the whole rear cluster isn't possible as each circuit is shown separately to avoid confusion
Here is the sidelight circuit, rear cluster is unit F30 and F31
5 door.JPG
Dotted lines to other F30 and F31 are the hi level clusters when fitted

N= BLACK
B= WHITE
C= ORANGE
M= BROWN
A= LIGHT BLUE
S= PINK
V= GREEN
R= RED
Z= PURPLE
G= YELLOW
H= GREY
L= BLUE

(Mind you, don't rely on the colour codes being correct, a few Fiat people like to have a laugh and put any old colour wire that comes to hand)

Wiring plugs aside, don't you think it'll look silly having 4 rear foglights? Or do you intend to not use the foglights in the new clusters?

And no, the connectors are not wired the same:

PRE-FACELIFT:
Pin 1 = Earth
Pin 2 = Side Lights
Pin 3 = Brake Lights
Pin 4 = Not Used
Pin 5 = Reversing Lights
Pin 6 = Indicator Bulb

POST-FACELIFT:
Pin 1 = Side Lights
Pin 2 = Rear Fog Lights
Pin 3 = Reversing Lights
Pin 4 = Brake Lights
Pin 5 = Earth
Pin 6 = Indicator Bulb

Hmm, didn't realise how easy it was . . .

thanks so much. that really helps.

no, I intend to keep the original foglights.

Best,

Lars.

Yeah, so keep using the old foglights and not use them in the new clusters? Suppose that would make it easier, you wouldn't then need to drag a feed from the tailgate to each cluster.

Just a small bit of rewiring and away you go! :)

If you do do it, post up a pic, I'd like to see what it looks like!

Oi the 5dr massive like our fogs :yum: I prefer the look on the series one over the series two tailgate ..I think the later one looks very bland :D

Sorry, Rich, that is what I meant: I would like to keep the old foglights and therefore I won't connect the new ones. That is the easiest way, too. As soon as I get around to install the lights, I will post pics, okay?

Best,
Lars.

Agreed, I thought the "crystal effect" rear clusters on the 5dr were a good selling point, I really liked them when we got ours, still do. I personally wouldn't change them but each to their own :).

and the job is done...

here is a pic:

The wiring Rich posted was not working for my car though... Will post my pre- and post-facelift wiring later.

Best,

Lars

and here is the wiring for my 5door:

PRE-FACELIFT:

Pin 1 = Earth
Pin 2 = Indicator (turn signal)
Pin 3 = Brake Lights
Pin 4 = Side Lights
Pin 5 = Not Used
Pin 6 = Reversing Lights

POST-FACELIFT:

Pin 1 = Indicator (turn signal)
Pin 2 = Earth
Pin 3 = Fog Lights
Pin 4 = Reversing Lights
Pin 5 = Brake Lights
Pin 6 = Sidelights

I connected Pin 3 to Pin 6, so that I still have double sidelights and kept the pre-facelift foglights.

Best,

Lars.
