New head unit

Hi All,

Noob here.

I have just bought a stilo, 53 JTD four door.

And I am very happily supprised with it after coming from a Mercedes c class.

The only problem I have is that a tape addaptor that I use for my ipod is stuck in the bloody head uint and won't budge (still working though), This seems to be a recuring problem after looking at a few threads here.

So I am thinking of geting an after market unit, possibly either Alpine or Pioneer.

The qusetion is will the dash display still work, ie will it still display for example the radio station etc?

Thanks j

Re: New head unit

no, short and simple.
believe it or not, I replaced my fiat cd player with an after market mp3 cd player, but I have to say the fiat cd player was better in sounds quality.

Re: New head unit

I got the Pioneer DEH P9800Bt head unit and i upgraded both front and rear door speakers. All i can say is it sounds worse! I had to reduce virtually all the bass to the rear 6x9s as there was so much rattle from the front doors!

Re: New head unit

my alipne sounds better than the 2din thing that it came with but some types of bass make the standard rear speakers rattle against the outer skin, fiat should have put some sort of insulation behind those! really annoying. the standard front speakers are really good tho.

How did you mount the new speakers? To put a head unit like that in and get worse sound than the originals tells us something is wrong. Very wrong. Standard or even premium fitted factory speakes cannot compare with some decent aftermarket speakers and that hu.

I used the speaker adapters, made sure they were nice and tight. The speakers i upgraded to are In Phase XT6C, 240watts. I know the speakers work fine with the head unit but its the doors that are the problem. The previous owner must of done something stupid with the passenger door beacuse half of the screws and bolts holding the door card were missing, as was the puddle light and even the door pin mechanism! Every time i close the door, i can clearly hear somthing loose inside. I've tried sound deadening but it just doesnt work. The drivers door is not as bad but still has minor rattle. Its annoying because i have virtually no mid range except treble and bass!

Anyone know if i can take the door apart???
