Oil Pressure Problem

Right, another problem straight away, Im beginning to regret buying another fiat after my bravo. Anyway,

When I start the car and leave the car ticking over the revs are slightly fluctuating from anywhere around 700-1100rpm, Then When I rev the engine and let it drop to tickover again, the revs drop to anything from 100-900rpm, and sometimes it cuts out.. says low oil pressure, but then when I start it back up again, its back to 700-1100 fluctuating. when its warmer it seems to sit better at 950-1000 slightly wobbling.

Anyway I drove the car back from Lincoln, as I only bought it tuesday, and i revved it on the guys drive, with none of the this oil pressure, sure, the revs fluctuated slightly, but nothing out of the ordinary. Only thing Iv've done since is top the oil up.
I thought that that could have contributed to it, as 0 problem before, 1 after. So tonight I put new Oil, Air Filter on, and also completely changed the oil, very good oil aswell, Stuff they use in the Ferrari's (As I work in a garage).

It didnt change and it gave the same problem, but when I got a charge hand to show him, I revved it 4 times in a row and the revs dropped, but it didnt cut out or show low oil pressure. Anyone got any idea what could be causing this?

Cheers, Andy.

Edit: There are no problems when driving, drives perfect. No abnormal noises or anything.

Re: Oil Pressure Problem

Ha! Looks like you'll be working your way down the Stilo Guides one at a time!
Sounds like your inlet valve needs cleaning- look in the Stilo Guides for how to- same as the Bravo really

Have you told us what engine you have? If so i missed it. Stilo engine should tickover at rock steady 800rpm when warm.

Oil pressure warning will just be the low revs and stalling I'm guessing so cure one cure all probably

Once you've done that disconnect the battery for a few hours to reset the ECU and let it relearn what's best-again, same as the Bravo. See it's handy staying with the same make of car

Re: Oil Pressure Problem

Right so ive established that its not actually a low oil pressure at all, its simply the revs are dropping so low, its reading a low pressure, with aircon on it holds it up just enough to not want to stall or anything, but im not leaving that on forever.

I cleaned the inlet butterfly (which was clean as new anyway) and it didnt do anything at all... what else could be causing this problem? cheers.

I didnt actually have this problem when i got the car on tuesday, I drove all around from lincoln and everywhere 50 odd miles, it only happened wednesday night when, and even then all id done was the airbag fix.. and had the battery disabled while i cleaned the plugs.

Any Ideas?

Re: Oil Pressure Problem

Yes the oil pressure is just a symptom of low revs

You cleaned the inlet valve before or after the problem started?

You disconnected the battery and the problems started happening afterwards yes?

What engine size?

What gap on the plugs? I reckon 0,9mm to be best for the 1.6

Sounds like your ecu has lost track of the throttle body

OK start again. Disconnect the battery for a few hours to reset the ECU again and then do a throttle body self learn reset. What's that?
Don't touch the throttle, brake or clutch throughout any of this procedure
Turn the ignition on but don't start the car
Leave it for a minute
Don't touch the throttle
Turn ignition off
Wait another minute for it to shovel the info into the ECU

Now start up and just do a normal drive for 30mins

If it's still not playing ball then give it an Italian workout of some high revs when stationary
Keep us posted

Re: Oil Pressure Problem

thanks for the advice, the engine size is 1.8 16v by the way (damn i love it when it drives) and i wont be able to do a normal 30minute drive for a while as im booked in for cambelt on wednesday, i know its cutting it close, but ive done 73k and cambelt is at 74k, so im only traveling less than a mile a day untill wednesday. Its having cambelt done, and im going to get the garage to check the throttle anyway, but afterwards im going to do as you posted. cheers mate, ill update you.

Re: Oil Pressure Problem

I did the reset and it worked a treat, the revs aint dropping it it no longer cuts out, cant wait to get my cambelt done on wednesday and give it a proper italian drive >: )

by the way I notice you have a 1.6 litre stilo how would you rate the driving I mean as in, what can keep up with you and what is your stilo faster than etc.. in general road use.

As Ive gone from a 1.2 80bhp bravo to a 1.8 stilo 133bhp, i feel a difference aleady.. although I do want it remapped.. But i noticed 6bhp from GSR? what???

Why dont angel tuning do the 1.8 stilo, as they did my bravo and i noticed the difference.

Re: Oil Pressure Problem

Good stuff
I should think you would notice the difference from a 1.2 Bravo to a 1.8 beastie
Maybe pop over to Performance Stilo site for friendly tuning advice. The 1.6 and 1.8 can be remapped but it hasn't been so easy as the others.

Cool Re: Oil Pressure Problem

You will notice the difference with the induction and mapping done on the 1.8 its quite a gain on the both cars ..my 1.6 is now running at 121.4 bhp from the 99.9bhp it disappointingly ran on the dyno and since its been done I think it has even improved on that figure now the ECU has fully releaned
