New Stilo

Hey Guys, No one will probably recognise me but ive shifted from the bravo part of these forums over here now ive sold my bravo which was beautiful, but I was bored and wanted a fresh start.

Anyway, so i ended seeing a beautiful stilo that captured my eye and I bought it.

Anyway first of all I noticed, that first of all the clutch pedal was a little stiff and squeaky which ive solved by greasing the ball joint on the back of the peddle which has worked a treat.

Now, The N/S headlight is condensed up, Ive removed the back covers and, Ive used the hair dryer on the front of the headlight whilst also having full beam and headlights on the inside, switched on, it has dryed a bit, but you can see the water sitting at the bottom of the lamp unit slightly, so I guess when the temperature changes the water will condense the light again, whats the best way to sort this problem out as its rather annoying me.

And finally, Ive got a continous airbag warning light on "Stop Engine Airbag Failure" Ive tryed checking the guides and ive removed the connectors and used electrical cleaner etc as followed in Decks Guide, but still warning light is on. I dont think its the Sensor in the seat as it makes no difference whos in the car, but it has for a split second gone off mid driving.

Any Ideas?

Cheers, Andy.

Re: New Stilo

I had the light issue, but it was on the other side which is a bit easier to get at. If water has gotten in there then you need to get it out otherwise it will sit there and come back time after time. Bit like in a watch!! The only solution I could come up with was to put a few bags if silica crystals in the light area. These are small bags that come with electrical goods and absorb moisture, they are a bugger to get in and out but it sorted the issue. Depending on the ammount of water in there this may or may not work? Worth a try!

Re: New Stilo

Hi.

Welcome to the world of fixing Stilos

The airbag warning will most likely be OCS fault. The only way to tell is by getting the code read on Examiner. If it is OCS then this can be bought for around £100 and fitted yourself. It really isn't too hard to do. Decks has posted a guide for that too.

In the meantime, if you want to get rid of the warning text on the dash, just push the "MENU" or "MODE" button whatever it is.

and also the orange airbag connector at the rear of the car?

It's saying something's up with the airbag circuit so go for the cheapest options first

Thankfully, it's not like the Bravo though where you have to go to a dealer to turn the air bag warning off.

Might still be the OCS but check those, give them a spray and see what happens

Re: New Stilo

That's the top of the driver's side rear shocker in the picture. Pull out the pocket in the driver's side rear boot area. You'll find your petrol flap emergency release cord (shown in red here) there too if you have one

Re: New Stilo

I thought that the OCS was a pressure sensor for when people sit in the seat, having passnengers makes no difference to the warning.. Anyway, I didnt know there was rear sensors, as Ive sprayed the front ones with electrical cleaner.

Im going to check the headlight in the morning to see if its cleared at all So hopefully it will be all good, Im guessing eventually after time, it will dry up anyway.

The airbag warning is just annoying me, as It takes up the whole millage/clock/ etc. how many sensors are in the rear? 2? 1 each corner?

Re: New Stilo

Pretend you have a Volvo and drive around with your lights on, that should dry them out quickly, see if you need the newer modded weatherproof connector on them.

AIRBAG
Just the one connector in the rear as in the picture up above
No way of telling whether its the connectors or OCS unless you've witnessed the OCS gradually failing when people get on or off the passenger seat. Once it's gone completely then it will give the same warnings as a connector problem ie fault in the airbag circuit immediately on start up

If you stick it on examiner then they will be able to find out quickly whether the OCS is gone or not. If you can feel lumps on the passenger seat then it's most likely had it

Re: New Stilo

Use plenty of lubrication- sticky flaps are a bit of a problem as they get older

Re: New Stilo

driving with lights on, or sides on dries them out, i had it with mine, and did this and they dried out and i checked all fittings in properly and they havent steamed up again- although due to nature of clear lenses, when water is on them in winter, and its cold but the sun is on them, you will get little spots of condesation in them, but it goes quickly

also remember with the stilo you can turn on your lights, drive around and not have to turn them off and remember to turn them on again next time you drive as the lights go out when you take out the key and come back on when you start it!

Re: New Stilo

.......and when you do get them dry.

Don't forget to put the cap back on to seal them (when it's hot & dry)
