Re: Night vision in a stilo

Ive got to say this seems to be the biggest possible waste of money anyone could have come up with!!! I will find out if its legal or not to have the screen in view today. My first thought is yes, becuase youre allowed sat nav in view and its not a tv its a driver aid.....but it would not have to beable to be used as a tv or dvd player.
At a guess its part of the trend to have things in the cabin that light up and look high tech.......its why all the boy racers round here have sat nav (when they never actually leave their own areas!). Surely no one drives that much at night that a decent light set up isnt good enough??????

Talking Re: Night vision in a stilo

More useful to stick the camera under the car I'd have thought

You could keep a close eye on speed bumps, wild life and most importantly view the road surface just before the front tyres break away on the really fast curves

well when i was lookin at the items the cost could have gone very high. or could keep it very low(and pointless) like one of those baby moniters with the screen that can view up to 2 feet.

7" CAR TFT LCD sun visor was 475 RMB so that worked out about £31
The 15" screen was about £50
The Combo LCD Moni TV BOX VGA was about £26

I thought 80 metres night vision would be enough. i know it was the expensive part apart from it was the first item i brought. or otherwise i knew i would just use all the other parts and never get round to doing it.

although i thought i might have to buy/install extra lights because the beam is kinda limited. it means more electric, might mean i won't be able to run the strobe light also (joking)

One of the things some1 else mentioned was the lights from other cars actually turning off the night vision, well had a bit of searching and people do use IR Pass Filters & Infrared Lens.... apart from that is so they get x-ray vision on there camra to see through peoples clothes.

so aswell as seeing in the dark i have gained the ability to be a pervert

i thought it would be a bit better than driving around with these on

Got to agree with you there Alpine. With the standard lights on ANY modern car there should be no problem.

Also , if you can't see well enough whilst driving at night you're either going too fast or you need your eyes testing.

Mikeeb84 - did Westwood help you choose the setup? Innit

Re: Night vision in a stilo

Well......its not the best idea Ive ever seen (IMO) but it is legal. Checked the database at work and the exemptions to having a screen in view of the driver are - "apparatus used to display information about the state of the vehicle or equipment, or about the location of the vehicle and the road on which it is located, or to assist the driver to see the road adjacent to the vehicle or to assist the driver to reach his destination".

I'm not actually sure that the set up will work very well though.....you haveto have your main beam on unless in an an area lit by street lights and the lights of oncoming cars will have a detrimantal effect.
I guess its a bling rather than practical exercise. Personally I'm thinking of mounting my shotgun in the car to out do him in the 'I'm James Bond' stakes!!!
