The Stilo Cull Continues....

Following posts from Bad Stilo & Gaz Lear, I must unfortunately admit to killing another one yesterday.

JTD, front tyre blew whilst cornering at moderate pace on a familiar country road (checked the front springs, they were intact). Steel rim bit into the tarmac, and off we went. Rolled several times and ended up in in a field.

Very impressed with the bodyshell - all doors remained closed, but were openable afterwards. Side air bags deployed, but didn't prevent the plastic handle above the door from battering my head repeatedly - nice Jackson Pollock blood-spattering across headlining.

All in all, I was so pleased that I might buy another one. Surprising really, because I'd always been vaguely unhappy with it until now.

I may have to leave this forum, the pictures of busted up and burnt out Stilos are starting to affect me psychologically

But it's a testement to the car that no matter how badly you screw up, or how much nature screws you, for the most part people walk away serious-injury free!

Re: The Stilo Cull Continues....

Thanks for the concern & applause guys....

Injuries were minor - bruised head, arms & shoulders, strained back, and some trivial but impressive scalp lacerations (nochalantly plucks another grain of broken glass out, and flicks it away).

The damage was aggravated because one of the rolls was end-over-end, not just the girly sideways kind (joking Gaz, I know what you've been through). I didn't really notice at the time, cos' I was busy staring at the steering wheel and wondering exactly what sort of impact that air bag was saving itself for.

I'm sure all modern decent cars are as strong, but I was damned impressed anyway. If I see a nicely discounted JTD, I'll happily choose Stilo again.

Re: The Stilo Cull Continues....

Wow lucky! Or unlucky depending how you look at it. Blown tyre..something so simple. No back passengers I guess? This is kind of worrying that the airbags won't deploy??

Yeah, both of them - there's a carphone one mounted centrally too. Must've been airborne for quite a lot of it.....

The side airbags did deploy, btw, and saved me a lot of hurt. Without them, my head would've been pounded into unconsciousness against the top of the door opening. The resulting brain damage could have been really serious, eg developing an urge to buy another Stilo...
