Re: Stilo spar plug size

There's only two standard sizes for spark plugs and the Stilo takes the smaller one. Need a deep socket and extension and one of these makes the job very easy.

Careful with tightening of course, torque it if you're not sure

Cool Re: Stilo spar plug size

A little tip for you peep as the plugs on 16 valvers are buried deep down ..
I use a length of thick walled rubber tubing to put the new plugs back in ..just push the plug into the tube and lower it down to the plug hole and then screw in to your hearts content finally tighten with a plug socket and extension bar /ratchet

Re: Stilo spar plug size

I always use a strong magnetic pick-up tool to lift plugs out

Great tip PNL - the aftermath of a crossed-thread in a spark plug hole is not worth remembering... uurrrgh... the helicoil thread-repair insert came out with a spark plug I changed once (on a FIAT twin cam) and things were never really the same again.

Don't see why not I found my piece in an old washing machine I was stripping down before I dumped it at our cleaning depo.. but as long as the ceramic section of the plug fits snugly on the pipe then it should be OK ..I use the pipe because I found that the plug socket had such a tight grip on the plug that when I pulled the socket off the plug after I had screwed it in the socket stayed on the plug and came off the extension bar so I took out the rubber insert out of one of the two plug sockets I have and it don't stay on there now I remove the plug with the socket that has the rubber insert and then screw the plug in so far with the tube and then tighten down with the other socket without the rubber insert

Re: Stilo spar plug size

Thanks
Actually in the end, I bought a sparkplug spanner from halfords that was long enough and it had a rubber seal inside it that grips the sparkplug . Worked very well and cost about a tenner.

Re: Stilo spar plug size

Easy way to remove the plug if your socket's rubber insert is knackered is to totally loosen it and then push the coil onto the plug and lift out, easy really. Therefore you don't need any reaching grapper thingys

Re: Stilo spar plug size

Another tip when inserting the new (or removed plug). Put it in place, turn it against the clock (leftwise / counter-clockwise) until you feel a little snap in your hand. That is when the thread starts, and you can carefully tighten it 100% into the threads clockwise. Be careful, as making new threads in an alloy head is no fun.
