Question Eibach TUV question / bump-stops.

I've now received my Eibach Pro System containing 4 sport shocks and 4 lowering springs (30 mm). The question is regarding the bump-stops.

As a point in the TUV papers, it states that the "series bump stops (rubber springs) must be kept" if using sport shock absorbers. As there were no special bump stops in the package, I suppose these are the original Fiat ones. Or am I wrong.

In another part of the TUV papers it says the bump stops should be the "original PUR bumpstops". PUR being polyurethane (difficult word). The data given in the TUV for these are:

Height/diameter (millimeter) front: 75/50
Height/diameter (mm) rear: 107/50-40

Are the Fiat original bump stops made of PUR? And does theses sizes make sense? I haven't removed the original shocks and springs yet in case I need to order new bump stops (Endanschlage). Are the "original PUR bump stops the actual bump stops on my car right now?

This is important when the car is shown for the proper authorities, who wear uniforms... If they find anything not thought of, I'll have some major problems, like not being allowed to drive etc.

I'd be happy for some bright ideas for this one. Will ofcourse e-mail Eibach aswell, but trying here first, as the forum members usually are a bit faster.

Regards, Morten.

Re: Eibach TUV question / bump-stops.

If you use the original bump stops, I deffo recommend trimming off the amount the Eibachs are lower than the original springs (usually about 30mm). Otherwise you will be literally 'bumping' against the stops much more regularly which can adversely affect ride quaility. Wouldn't worry about the boys in blue though - the main thing is to let your insurance company know...

I had a feeling about the trimming, as I forgot this on the Uno when it was lowered. It was like there were 2 cm of spring play before the bump stop was struck. Remember doing a speed bump after mounting. I'm pretty sure the Uno was flying. Then it was put under the knife, and everything went well.

Regarding the car inspector boys in blue (who never managed to become cops)... These are the guys to worry about here. Not the insurance company. I've informed them, and I will have to pay exactly 100 NOK (about 8 GBP) for the Eibach Pro Set. I actually didn't have to pay at all, but wanted to be 100% sure everything was covered. The vehicle has to be shown for inspection after mounting and they follow the TUV paper's list of possible changes to the vehicle, being; lowering itself, lights, angles (camber/castor), brake pressure switch, wheel clearance, ride height, correct parts, bump stops, and more. Everything.

Cool Re: Eibach TUV question / bump-stops.

Polly parts arent available for the Stilo Morty so you cant fit them BUT as fiat do a great deal of parts sharing on their cars then it might be worth you looking at say the Brava/o ones to see if they are the same just a thought

Re: Eibach TUV question / bump-stops.

This had never even crossed my mind and don't think it's been mentioned much before
Has anyone that has lowered had any symptoms of hitting the bumpstops, can't say i have even with 4 up.

Re: Eibach TUV question / bump-stops.

I'll try phoning Eibach as the don't seem to find replying to e-mails very interresting. As I now have bought the Pro Dampers (as a pro-set with springs) they are most likely shorter, which will allow the existing bump-stops to work as they have done. If I don't get any reply from Eibach I will measure the length of the pistons when fully depressed on the OEM damper and the Eibach damper. Comressing with "muscle power" is no problem with the spring removed. If the remaining piston length are the same, this must be OK I think. Too short bump-stops are not good either...

Will let you know what I find.

Re: Eibach TUV question / bump-stops.

Here's a thread from where I was riding on the rear bumpstops.

http://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/81675...owering-d.html

Which again tells me to keep the original ones, as I could get a thumb n' a half underneath the rear end of the car. I am not interresting in bump stops that doesn't stop the rear from hitting rock bottom. It is mostly the front I'm concerned about - as these were the trouble when I lowered the Uno.

Work will be done after easter holiday - late april I think. Is it called easter? When mr. Jesus himself vanished into thin air at weekend, just to return on monday. Trying to remember the lessons from school here - 20 years ago.

If I can get hold of a friend (who can handle getting dirty) I will try to make a guide to changing the shocks / springs all around. Ofcourse if I can manage loosening all bits and bolts. Have aquired an extra set of spring compressors (4 now), copper grease and WD40 etc. to make this happen.

So I did, and they say that modified bumpstops are not a part of this pro system kit (as I was told by the Norwegian importer). I should not trim or cut the original bumpstops either - just remove and insert to my new set.

So that's it then. No trimming until I feel any problems.

If anyone'd like to call them, their number is +4927215110.

Re: Eibach TUV question / bump-stops.

Just a quick thought...isn't the Schumacher stilo fitted with eibach springs, if so then maybe contact fiat for the bump stops that would be specifically designed for the lower ride height.

Re: Eibach TUV question / bump-stops.

All right. I've now changed the suspension to the Eibach Pro Set. 4 shocks and 4 springs. Original bump stops used.

I have taken many photos, and will present a guide in the Stilo's guide section for doing this at home. It takes some hours, it's hard work, but it's simple. Is there any interest in getting a guide for this?

Well, look what I found. This is the original one from the front schock. It actually says PUR. Strange? So Eibach was right then. But not on the rear though.

All pictures are now edited and modified to fit the eibach pro system guide, so now is the text bit. I'll propably need some days.
