Question BMA Panel Filters - Any good?

Morning all,

Just a quickie, anyone had experience with BMC Panel air filters that directly replace the standard one?

Comments/views appreciated

cheers

Thumbs up Re: BMA Panel Filters - Any good?

I used a K & N direct panel filter replacement, works fine.

Re: BMA Panel Filters - Any good?

BMC replacement filters are of a very high quality and flow well. But the problem is that the Stilo intake is pretty bad to start with, which unfortunately means that improvements in performance are rather limited.

Nice one oldschool,

I'm thinking of one of these to tied me over until i can get a proper induction kit and remap done.

A BMC panel air filter is just that it filters air, just a bit better than original ones.
An induction kit totally alters the way in which the air goes into the inlet tract of an engine. Imagine the engine just sucks in air through the filter, the induction kit allows for a 'torodial' effect to happen (twisting the air) as the air is sucked in allowing for a more compacted airflow into the engine - and the induction noise is great too

Re: BMA Panel Filters - Any good?

Ooh k I got it now thanks for sorting out that confusion
With regards to the panel filter though how much of a noise difference does it make. Why should I do this mod basically

Personally I've not heard a BMC panel filter in operation, but its more noise than any other gain IMO - I've got a BMC induction kit on my Abarth to aid the remapped ecu, as it allows the engine to have more air - thus better acceleration and more fun. The better the airflow the more you can get out of a engine which was previously restricted by a standard air intake system.

BMC panel filter & ECU learning

fitted myself a BMC panel filter on my 2.4 selespeed last weekend and didn't think it would make any difference at all.

BUT after about a week it has! it's strange though, I can floor it and as soon as it gets to around 6400rpm it feels like a turbo is bolted on and you get a sudden shove before the selespeed changes gear.

Would the ECU learn new fuel/air settings through time and adjust the fueling as there is more air flowing into the engine now?

Another thing is I don't feel a drop in power when the selespeed decides to change gear, so would it be possible to map the selespeed ECU inot making it rev to around 7200rpm or wherever peak power is before changing gear?
