Wink Can Obdii/Eobdii Auto Scanner-U480?

Hello everyone

As I'm getting rather tired of paying each time I loose a coil, I wonder if this device will work with my Stilo 2003 2.6 active.

http://www.made-in-china.com/china-p...nner-U480.html

I've found it at a price 50£. in Denmark.

Thanks in advance

Thomas

Re: Can Obdii/Eobdii Auto Scanner-U480?

It will most probably work on a Stilo which is standard EOBD but why not use their enquiry form and ask them? Most suppliers will give a refund if it dosn't work (especially if they have said it will work on the Stilo)

I wonder why you want one for coil failures? When a coil goes then you shouldn't need one of these to tell you the fault code. By the time the car recognises a coil has gone then the car is almost undriveable but it will display fault codes on your Stilo dashboard display, the same fault code numbers as you would find using a code reader tool

Always useful to be able to read off other fault codes though

Re: Can Obdii/Eobdii Auto Scanner-U480?

Coil failure doesn't dispaly a specific fault, more a generic 'Engine Fault'

However, it is fairly obvious from the drivability that a coil has gone down. Identifying which coil is also fairly easy by simple disconnection of each coil in sequence until the engine running isn't affected, then you have found the defective cylinder. A verification check would be to move this coil to another cylinder and see if the fault follows it.

You got to do it yourself, but much quicker and definitely cheaper than going to the local stealer to diagnose. When you have re-fitted a new coil, the warning display goes away after a few starts.

This is taken from my own personal experience of 3 coil failures

Re: Can Obdii/Eobdii Auto Scanner-U480?

They've displayed specific fault codes when mine have gone which also pinpoints which cylinder is causiing the trouble

P0351 Ign coil cylinder 1
P0352 Ign coil cylinder 2
etc
P0301 misfire cylinder 1
P0302 misfire cylinder 2
etc

But, like i said, by the time the diagnostics works out which one is wrong it's already very apparent a coil has gone and most of us would jump in and fix it without waiting for the codes to show up

With older cars you'd normally be replacing HT leads, distributor cap, rotor arms, contact points etc probably twice in 50k miles. With over plug coils then it's all the more reliable and the timing more accurate but when a coil goes it's a lot more expensive

I have a coil change down to a 5mins fix now, how about you StiloSte?

Re: Can Obdii/Eobdii Auto Scanner-U480?

Hi all

Thanks for the reply. I've asked the dealer and he promise me that it will work on my Stilo.

It's not onley for coil problems I want this tool.

I've had a problem this vinter. Car started fine but if I touched the accelerator the car would die instantly.

I could start but it died againg instantly.

After about 20-30 restarts the engine was warm enough to run and after that it would run all day until I left ti long enough to get cold.

So I went to the FIAT garage thy told me it was the MAP sensor that was faulty.

They changed it, 200£

guess what, not a cure.

So I went back.

Now they said it might be the throttle engine.

They changed it, and now the car was running smootly like newer before in the time I've owned it.

1000£

So I asked them to change the MAP back to the original unit the remove as it hadn't help replacing it.

And they did, and payed me, my money back for the unit.

Now the car is running poorly again.

So the map sensor might be faulty after all or what?

I don't want to go to the garage anymore as I belive I can sort this out myself with the right tools and proper advice.

By the way I've lost 4 coils in 2 years, never seen error codes in the dash board, only ingine faliure lamp.

once more

Thanks for your reply

Thomas

Maybe engine temp sensor for you too as it's engine temp related i.e. hardly runs when cold then ok when warm

It works on my 1.6 16v 12/2001
Only 'problem is that you don't have all codes in book, but you can download from some site.
It is simple and works fine. I have LPG, and changing in gas quality sometimes turn on some code, and this machine turns it off. For now, I know my standard errors. I use it once in few month, but I don't pay and loose time for this any more. If something come out twice in short time, then I'll go to service!

Yeah, something like that. It takes longer to open the garage doors to get the very few tools needed than to change them now. Diagnosis of the failed unit is very quick too. If only everything in life was this simple.
