Electrical drain?

Had a problem with the Stilo today - flat battery. The car hadn’t been used since last Friday night, but I would have thought it should last longer than that for a 4 month old car?

Anyway, the AA came out and got me going, but in the post ‘got me going’ analysis the AA man discovered that even with the engine off and the doors locked etc, there was still a drain of approx 2.6 amps on the battery – which he thought was odd. Funnily though, with the car unlocked and the bonnet open this figure dropped to about 0 – could an alarm use that much juice?

The cars booked in with the dealer tomorrow to see if they can establish where the juice is going, but I wondered if you guys had any thoughts.

It’s a 1.9 MJET ’56 plate – only aftermarket mods are a remap and a fiat fitted alarm system – cars done just 5,000 miles – 50/50 motorway/urban.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Ian.

Re: Electrical drain?

Certainly something wrong there with that level of drain

Does sound alarm related doesn't - think I'd want to check how it's been wired

That drain would kill any battery over just a weekend.

I remember now, this was the NO deadlocks = Free Alarm resolution.

I bet your wishing you hadn't bothered (with the alarm I mean)

Yep - youre not wrong.....

Just a bit worried if we go on holiday and leave the car at the airport - 'packing checklist' - swimming trunks, sun cream, jump leads.....

Re: Electrical drain?

Right, just got the car back from the dealers.

Apparently the 'Body Computer' isnt shutting down, and thats causing the drain. A new one has been ordered and will be fitted within the next week or so.

Ive not heard of a 'Body Computer' before - whats that then?

Will having a new 'Body Computer' mean I'll no longer have a re-map I wonder?????:

Re: Electrical drain?

The BC, much as it sounds, is the most important part in the whole car as everything depends on it. It's central to car security and only one BC will ever work in your car. You could argue that the BC IS your car (hence they'll be ordering an exact duplicate)

In your position, I'd ask them to get one with the alarm module built in. They probably can't but there's no harm in asking. To understand why that would be a good thing you'd need to follow all the alarm threads on the Forum.

I think I'd be a little suspicious of the diagnosis but then that's maybe just me
