changed tyres no asb

hi there,

got some new tyres fitted today, and instead of a 65 profile i got a 55 profile, now when a accelerate i get a warning flashing light like when you are wheelspinning, then asb,esp and asr failure came up and it told me to stop.

a turned the asr off and now have no problems but what is wrong and how do i sort it?

is it beacuse the wheel now is a smaller diameter that it playing up

ASR works out what speed you're doing from the wheel rpm but it has no means of knowing what size tyres are fitted.

You should always match profile with wheel size as otherwise, apart from anything else, your Speedo will be out

The car would have no way of telling that youve put smaller diameter tyres on and assuming you have the same amount of grip it shouldnt make any difference. May just be a coincidence, or something the tyre fitters have knocked/damaged when they changed them over.

Lightbulb Re: changed tyres no asb

ASR is way more sophisticated (at least on the Stilo) than many people realize

I'm going to stick my neck out and say you've only changed the tyres on one axle (let's assume the front).

ASR takes information from ALL 4 wheels so it will now think the front wheels are spinning and will try to do something about it.

If you brake then ABS will be totally confused as it wont be able to make sense of the rear wheels starting to lock up (this is why ABS is shutting down).

SOLUTIONS
  1. Fit the correct tyres (that's what I'd do)
  2. Fit 'wrong' tyres to the other axle too.

You want to fix this real quick as you'll Stilo will be way safer with the 65 profiles back on.

No one would change the front profile and not the rear....surely??!!
If so then I would agree......it will confuse the poor thing!!!

I've seen it happen - many times Mostly on older FIATs though.
I remember an Uno that I bought which would pull to the right. I booked in for a wheel alignment, but the real problem was the 155/70/13 tyre on one side and a 'budget' 155/80/13 tyre on the other side...

I think the best was a 155/80/13 on the left, and a 185/60/14 (yes, 14) on the right. So, someone even went to the trouble of fitting a different wheel behind the matching wheel cover... !

Even the difference between almost-worn-out and new tyres can be a problem with ABS/ASR.

You sure this hadn't been entered into the "FIRST TO LOSE CONTROL OF YOUR CAR CONTEST"
