Which tyres are best??

Does anyone know which are the best tyres to fit on a Stilo 1.6 3 door? The car came with Dunlop Sport 2000E 205/55 R16's but these seem to wear down fast. I have been told Continental are good tyres, but then the road tests in these have not been good. I've been looking at Bridgestone ER30's which seem to be the best all rounders, does anybody have any advice?

Thanks

the tyres that wear down fast are softer, so they are better in the wet, harder ruber tyres will last longer but are not so good in the wet,

I absolutely swear by Michelins and would not have anything else on my cars. You get superb roadholding wet or dry and reasonable wear as well. (There is a full technical service as well which I once used which involved a Engineer comming out to rectify a problem caused by a tyre fitment business (Kwik-Fit)and he argued my case. This did not cost me a Dime.)
There are various compounds available and if you contact Michelin with your needs they will advise you. Superb service and tyres.

I'm a great fan of Bridgestone tyres..... they have a tyre selector on there european website and its throws out some of the tyre types that are fitted to the likes of Ferrari and Mercedes cars.... the Potenza S03 and the Potenza RE720s both have good road holding in wet and dry and if they use similar compounds to their F1 tyres in these then we all know how good they are in semi dry and wet conditions ;)

Select your model Stilo below........
http://www.bridgestone-eu.com/tyreselector/step5.asp?brand=BS&Year=2002&NextStep3=%3E%3E%2C+% 3E%3E%2C+%3E%3E&nID=143049&NextStep3=%3E%3E

If the link doesnt work this is the main page http://www.bridgestone-eu.com/tyreselector/step1.asp?brand=BS

Whichever ones you go for try http://www.blackcircles.com
You can have them delivered (£10 per order) and get them fitted locally (my local place quoted £6 each)or fit them via one of their local fitters. The whole srvice was quick, efficient, painless and lot cheaper than other places I tried. I paid £160 fitted for 2 Toyo R610 205/55/16. They give far better grip (wet and dry) than the Firestones that came with the wheels, can't comment on wear yet.
Ebay can have some bargins, I've just bought two pirelli P7s for £60 each, after delivery and fitting they will have cost £72 each.

One thing to remember though is that if you have ESP fitted you should have the same tyres fitted all round, it is not advisable to mix your tyres. Just thought I`d say.

Thanks for the help guys.

I would like to have Bridgestone tyres, but think I'll get the Dunlops again because they are cheaper and my local Fiat have just given me a good price for 2, which is suprising. Apparently the tread only wears away quickly on the inside if the tracking is out or if you swap the front wheels with the back, I'm constantly having my tracking reset, but Fiat always say its fine when it goes in the garage, which is pretty often.

Reply to pugwash - just spoke to Fiat and they say it doesn't matter about makes, you can mix them. So if Fiat say it, it must be true!!

Tasha, it`s only if you have ESP fitted, otherwise it don`t matter.
