| Problem Stilo Hi guys, just found this site today but hoping that someone might be able to help with the problems I'm having. I've got a 02 1.6 Dynamic, first let me say I've stopped taking it to the local Fiat dealership for 2 reasons 1) they were completely incompetent and 2) they have now gone out of buisness anyway, so now I have to take it to a local independant garage. A few months ago I was stopping at traffic lights & the engine cut out it flashed up 'engine fault stop engine' I took it to the garage, they pluged it in & it was a problem with the map sensor, got that fixed. Then the same thing happen 2 weeks later, took it back & it was the map sensor again, so they replaced it again (free of charge ) and all was fine for a while. Now every time I start the engine it comes up 'engine fault' then goes away but the light stays on, I've taken it back to the garage about 6 times they keep plugging it in but can't find what the problem is, last time it said it was map sensor circuit so they sorted that, reset it and then 2 days later it went off again. Also the engine keeps cutting out, it's always when I'm slowing down for a T Junction, traffic lights, roundabout etc it just completely goes, sometimes it'll be ok for a couple of weeks, other times it'll go out 8 times in one journey. It is driving me crazy does anyone have any ideas at the moment I'm think of taking down to the beach and letting it drift out to sea! Thanks

| It's about GO! not SHOW! | Re: Problem Stilo If you use the site SEARCH option then you'll find simply loads of answers to this problem which has been covered many times. Can't help you directly as I drive a JTD. I you do take your Stilo out to sea then let us know how you get on as no one's done that yet

| Whaddya mean too old? | Re: Problem Stilo I think you've provided most of the answers already. With a reported bad connection at the MAP sensor then I'd check out the connection and clean it with proper electrical contact cleaner (available at your friendly Halfords) as others have had bad contacts there too with similar problems The MAP sensor reads the air pressure going into the engine and sends out a voltage relating to that pressure so the engine management system can work out what fuel to put in. A resistance in the form of a poor contact at this connection will give all the wrong information and a poorly running engine Now as the ECU has probably gotten confused too with the readings its been getting from the MAP and, fed up with the nonsense, has gone into a sulk so reset your ECU afterwards by disconnecting the neg battery lead for an hour or so. Then give it a run with your best behaviour "normal" driving and fingers crossed all may be well (or not) Then the most difficult part Find a garage who aren't just going to change parts without any thought to the symptoms and then leave you stranded. Once you have found your decent garage (and they do exist) then send them regular gifts of beer, football season tickets and old but still useful girlfriends Tel Nos to keep in their good books.
