Question Fuel guage accuracy?

Coming home from work today, I'd allowed the fuel to get quite low (don't normally)

Anyway, the fuel gauge was reading totally empty and the 'range' display had changed to blank - so I knew it was getting serious.

So I filled up until the pump cut off, but the pump only showed that I'd put in about 52.5 litres, whereas the tank (according to the specs) holds 58?

Anyone have any ideas on why this may be??

Its a 1.9 MJET - if that makes any difference?

Cheers,

Re: Fuel guage accuracy?

Blimey! You live dangerously

I've found a variation of about ±5% on what the trip computer thinks you've used compared to what goes in the tank (always try to use same pump)

I'd keep a notebook a record a few tankfuls and see how it goes (obviously you must reset trip 'A' when you fill-up and make sure you record the reading before you do )

Re: Fuel guage accuracy?

I've done 57 Litres before :S

I'm guessing that there's at least another litre or two within the fuel line...
