Pre-Heat Fault

In the last week my fault has started giving a pre-heat fault message.

It starts as normal but about 5 seconds later the fault message appears then disappears withing a minute.

Would I be right in assuming this is a faulty glow plug?

If it is, how difficult are they to replace? I have no way of knowing which is at fault so I was going to swap them one at a time until the fault msg stops.

Mike

Hi I had the same fault - but took my JTD to an independant auto electricians so diagnostic kit was connected and fault was reported back to me

Turned out to be Number 2 Cyl heater plug open circuit, I bought new heater plug fitted just this one, you require long 10mm socket and 1/4 drive extension & ratchet (£7 + vat for heater plug from local motor factors) all faults now clear

The only hard bit is finding an auto electricians with the fiat diagnostic kit, I would not trust a dealer, especially after reading some of the accounts on this forum.

if you need any more info let me know

Re: Pre-Heat Fault

These are dead easy to diagnose (Examiner is a waste of time). Try this for starters. A few other useful threads can be found if you use SEARCH.

Rubbish....easy to test with multimeter! No need for auto electrician & dont believe everything you read.
