(T) The dealers!

Ive known some dealers in my time but ive never been ripped off by one... like i could have been... And this is of the car dealer variety...

So Six months ago i had a problem with the stilo... kept dying after start up etc, took it to Fiat in Havant nr Portsmouth they diagnosed it with a map sensor fault and replaced it for £120ish all was well for 2 months untill i then devoloped another problem.

Beep it went with an engine fault, and engine kept dying!

Took it for another diagnosis and told them they had recently replaced the map sensor, a few hours later they rang me and told me a sensor had gone and that they would have to replace the sensor... and the whole loom(?) it was connected to, as it all came as one piece for the cost of £245...

I did call to find out some more info, and all i got was sorry cant tell you the fault code and were not too sure on the details of the loom they offered to put in for me... which didn't feel right!

Of course the first thing i did was post you guys on here, and ask what you thought. Of which the "whole loom' thing stood out, as a new loom would cost near £400. So it was suggested i have another diagnosis done to see if they were bull****ting me.

They have persistantly being calling me over the last 3 months to come in and have the car fixed even though all i had done was a diagnosis and thats all i asked for... i even had a txt off them last week saying:

Seward Cars, West street : Confirmation that LS***B booked in on 22 Jan 2007. WIRING LOOM TO BE FITTED 2 DAY JOB NO LOAN CAR AVAILABLE.

To top this i hadn't even booked it in... of which i thought was very cheeky.

Obviously i didn't take it in, after smelling something fishy going on... sooo anyways...

I had the other diagnosis done today with a funky piece of kit belonging to my Boss's mechanic. (Boss has a green Lambo Gurado - so thought i could trust his mechanic) he plugged it in today (Free)

It came up with P0105 Manifold Abosolute barometric Pressure Sensor - Circuit Malfunction.... Intermittent For which i only just realised is (MAP) Sensor...

What do i do?

Do i go into Fiat and ask them if there parts and labour are covered for 12 months, than flash the printout this nice bit of kit did on my second diagnosis... and tell em to put it right, at the same time asking what this loom is? The one that they want to put into my car.

Im pretty anoyed at them to be fair and feel i wanna go say something.

With out you lot i'd of been a bit more gullable and said just fix it... but i hate being ripped off.

It's always difficult diagnosing intermittent faults, especially from a distance but let's look at the facts
You had intermittent engine stalling. Fault code P0105
Changing MAP sensor seemed to give temporary cure
Then back to intermittent engine stalling. Fault code intermittent P0105

Sooooooo I'd make certain you were getting a good connection at the MAP sensor (seems obvious but a poor contact here would give all your symptoms), a touch of the old magic contact cleaner might simply and cheaply do the job. You're obviously in the right area of MAP sensor but with a poor contact, there may have been nothing actually wrong with the original sensor
