Gearchange

I have a 1.8 Dynamic which I think has a notchy gearchange. My dealer tells me it is normal for this car ..has this been other users experience?

Hi Pugwash
I think the gear change are a bit notchy also but this seems normal.
It is slightly worse in the winter due to the oil being thicker with the cold weather.
Sometimes replacing the gearbox oil with a good 75-90 semi syth oil will help.
Good luck

Mine's as slick as they come. 5th can be a bit long winded. Try driving an Astra - you'll think the Stilo is the best thing since sliced bread. Try another Stilo. PS. Does your ASR light (it looks like a spinning wheel with gravel being churned up) illuminate at all? Eg. on start up check? Cheers,

Not that I know what notchy means exactly :) but if it does mean what I'm assuming then mince is not. It is very very smooth and esay and to change gears and they engage very nicely.

To reply to sbaddison, I had an Astra 2.0 GSI before and the gearbox was excellent as well (but it had a sport version), so I'm not sure that all Astras are bad... Well actually engaging the reverse was a bit difficult and noisy. And concerning the ASR light (you had this at another post, right?): as I said there as well, in my car does not illuminate and never did from the first day I bought my car last September. Pressing the button I only get the message on the LCD and when my wheels loose track on the snow only the ESP illuminates.

May be you should call them Opel and import them :p Then you'll see that they don't all suck :) Mine reached 200,000 km without any problems ever except the normal wear and tear.

Every vauxhall i've ever driven has had a rubbery disconnected feeling.

The Stilo has a very nice change!

Yep, I reckon it's normal, mine's notchy too!

My Brava before was silky-smooth which is strange as it had the same engine as my Stilo, not sure if they've changed the gearbox from the Brava to the Stilo but yep, it's notchy, and trying to get reverse feels like you're shearing all the cogs in the gearbox!

I find my gearbox very pleasant indeed, so much that I've become very lazy with the clutch. Sometimes I don't depress it fully. :I

Yes, mine is ok when the engine is hot, but from cold it's terrible, especially reverse.

Good to see the notchy gearbox, I was just about to ask, but did a search first!

Mine seems a struggle, well not difficult but notchy going from 2nd to 3rd, but fine 4th down to 3rd. Only noticed it on that 2nd to 3rd everything else fine.

My dealer said its just the way the gearbox is!
