Hi, I asked dealer the same thing yesterday! He told me it is possibly the air flow sensor? Mine does it for about 5 secs when first pulling off when cold. Is this the same problem you have

Hi Anthony, Mine does it for a couple of minutes from cold,But it's one of those things you put up with as i have'nt got time to keep going to the dealers and when it's warm it's fine , All i do is put it in 2nd as soon as pos then it's driveable, But as i may be selling it soon i've got to get it sorted!

cheers

Its probably the same thing. when pulling away slowly it does it, as soon as i put my foot down it goes. If you do get it sorted, or if anyody else knows the cure, then let us know

Re: Kangarooing Abarth...Any fixes????

good luck

I've found with mine if I leave the engine running for a good minute before setting off and then moving off slowly it's ok.

Other option is to try pulling away in 2nd?

I often pull off in 2nd, when im trying to drive sensibly. I find that pulling off in first just provokes me to plant my foot right down!
Thats when the petrol guage starts going in the opposite direction to the speedo

Re: Kangarooing Abarth...Any fixes????

Yup had it twice now - each time it was a coil on the way out.....

eventually the coil goes and you get a 'engine management failure warning' - but that took 6 months to come up the first time. Unfortunately until you get the warning come up examiner cannot tell you which coil is on the way out....

These coils seem to have a life of 30k-40k and when one goes the others seem to follow shortly after

I will be replacing the remaining 3 original ones in sepotember after my holiday so hopefully that will be problem solved for another 30K

Arrow Re: Kangarooing Abarth...Any fixes????

You should do a search, there are many solutions, which in the end make you just more frustrated ... But I never heard that it could be a coil. With bad coils or spark plugs one usually experiences kangarooing even at higher speeds and also when the car is warmed up. Mostly when accelerating.

Possible solutions i had written down once when I did a thorough search

- cleaning the clutch rotation speed sensor
- a sensor connected with the acc. pedal which sends info to the eco which then sends info to the gearbox ( needs reset or something )
- Phase variator ( p1653)
- clutch solonoid valve
- temperature sensor unit
- some bosch sensor which measures intake pressure

.. i have never fixed it, seemed like too much trouble and mostly I feel like I know as much or more than the mechanic working on the car when it comes to the Abarth and selespeed. As much as ive read, pretty much every abarth has this problem at some point. Mine is most "jumpy" in winter and when its wet.

Re: Kangarooing Abarth...Any fixes????

Thats exactly how mine went (twice now) kangarooing and very hard to drive smoothly when cold or wet. Both times a coils change fixed it! also experienced occasional lack of acceleration...

Re: Kangarooing Abarth...Any fixes????

PROTOFJ: What you described is exactly what I am experiencing, and I am now on 31,000 miles.

In process now of getting some new coils. I will replace all five together, and when done I will post my observations

Re: Kangarooing Abarth...Any fixes????

Hi guys, Im experiencing exactly the same things when engine is cold, but drives perfect when warmed up,

Checked my coils and they are the original SAGEM brand fitted when new, car has now 60,000 miles.

Do you think these could be the problem

Cheers

Kev
