It's easy enough with the proper tool (if you can do the front)

You just need to weigh paying £15 for the tool vs paying someone to do it.

Personally, I'd rather pay an outlet to change the front pads as that way you can moan and take it back if they start squealing

Re: Replacing Rear Brake Pads

well my front ones squeal like hell but ive given up on that, not sure what the problem is.

i've just been quoted £137.29 for new disks and pads on the rear, does that sound about right?

Kinda makes my point I guess

.....but what the hell are you considering changing discs on the rear for All you need is a set of rear pads.

For £137.29 you should be able to get pads changed on BOTH front & rear at a brake centre (sort out that squealing too)

Re: Replacing Rear Brake Pads

Guys can you use just something like a screwdriver to wind back the rear calipers like you used to in my old X1/9's or do you really need that special tool?

Re: Replacing Rear Brake Pads

If you read up all the threads on this then you shouldn't need any more convincing.

Mind you - most of us learn the hard way

...but I promise you you'll feel sick if you do ruin a rear caliper

Exclamation Re: Replacing Rear Brake Pads

Watch out when you do the rear pads. The tool can be made with bolts and plates but Fiat price is quite good as against LASER tool £20-£22 which may not quite fit.
BUT BE CAREFUL NOT TO TURN THE WRONG WAY AND END UP WITH THE PISTON IN YOUR HAND.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET IT BACK PLEASE??
THE HAND BRAKE CABLE SHOULD BE DISCONNECTED ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL - ( I HAVE IT ON DISC IF ANYONE NEEDS IY )

Thumbs up Re: Replacing Rear Brake Pads

Does anyone know if we have to do something different than we did at the front? We can't find a haynes manual anywhere for a fiat stilo to answer our question?
Hi, I have just fitted new pads on the rear of our stilo, I had great problems with rewinding pistons, tried for hours. The very simple solution was to use a rewind cube from draper or sealey at under £10, I fitted a socket extention bar on to the cube and fitted it to an electric drill, reverse gear for near side and forward gear for offside, I pushed the drill hard to engage lugs on piston and pulled trigger for about 5 seconds and that was it, the piston went back like a dream. Dont forget to open the lid on brake resevoir as the fluid will back up, it was so simple. You can jam the caliper against the shock absorber to hold in place. Each side took only 5 minutes in total. Good luck Barry

Barry, Welcome but there's very little point in posting a reply after pretty much two years (do you think they even still have the car?)

Have a read through this complete thread - you should find it interesting
