Exclamation EOBD Engine Control System Failure !!!!!!!!

I have the Stilo 1.6 and it's on a 02 plate.

As I was driving home from work tonight I heard the bleep then Engine Fault with a little spanner appeared on my panel. The engine cut out on me but after the 2nd attempt I managed to get it running and got home ok. Can anyone assist me as to the problem!!

Is it best to take it to a Fiat dealer or can any garage assist me! I have only had the stilo for 3 months.............

Jees thank you for that. Cannot believe you need to pay for a software upgrade or should I say I never thought of it.........

Atleast it isn't too drastic *fingers crossed*

Re: EOBD Engine Control System Failure !!!!!!!!

Would ask them to stick it on the examiner (they need to for the update) and find the fault... hope its nothing more serious - Good Luck

Re: EOBD Engine Control System Failure !!!!!!!!

From what I've read from other forum members posts, it fixes a few issues to do with the Throttle Body and also MAP Sensor, not sure what else it "cures", guess over a course of time, Fiat have been able to fine tune various parts to get the best of the car and overcome "Bugs" in the software of the various "Electronic" units.

I've spoken to 2 dealers who claim only to update the "software" when they cannot find any other cause for a fault, seems to be a last resort thing from what I've been told.

This I know does pee us of but the later cars didnt have these glitches fiat at least make the fact known where as companies like Ford/Vauxhall dont inform the owners of these upates as it would highlight the flaws in theirs cars my wife had a astra Mk4 a year ago it was guttless through the gears and you had to change to a lower gear as the engine was none responsive [would not pick up in high gear at a lower speed]not very versitile at all that car really did need a remap to sort out fueling poblems

Re: EOBD Engine Control System Failure !!!!!!!!

Update is for all non-diesel stilos.

The update should be carried out before MAP or throttle body is renewed.

Yes you have to pay for it...but most dealers do a free morning (normally thursdays) when they will carry out all types of work for free

Ford will charge you one hour for PCM update!
