Stilo Servicing - the highs and lows

Seeing that this always comes up in threads, the Stilo mods have decided to try and collate all this information in one place, so I will start. Please post your details, and we will update THIS post - if you could note down the following it'd be grand:
  • Your Stilo's Engine Size
  • Which service it went in for (e.g. 36k, 3yr low mileage service)
  • Name & Location of Establishment
  • Was it a Main Fiat Agent?
  • What month & year was it done?
  • The cost (with VAT included)
  • Was any extra work done (e.g. pollen filter) or any left off due to lower mileage (e.g. spark plugs not changed)?
  • Any other useful information

Re: Stilo Servicing - the highs and lows

'48K' 4th service done last Saturday at Motormech (B/ham) - as I only have 37K on the clock meant plugs not necessary thus £148 incl. pollen filter & brake fluid change. Came across Motormech by accident in my 16vt e-blag wonky wheel saga (sorted me with 2 more wheels) sooo glad I did, friendly & knowlegeable... will definately go back for next service & cambelt

'36K' 3rd service @ Sunwin Fiat Derby £264 incl. MOT but forgot to change pollen filter

EDIT: On list

Yes T' do know Pollen filter is extra, but when I book an Active Aircon for a service expect it to be done or to be given the option... not just told 'oh its got Aircon?' when I ask and get told they didn't bother. What worries me is that since the pollen filter has been changed there is a radical improvement in the volume of air coming into the car but the aircon has packed up again and I now wonder if this may be as a result of the blocked pollen filter.

Re: Stilo Servicing - the highs and lows

On service sheet as option & wouldnt be first time I had to remove one cause customer didnt want it or screenwash
Bit of communication at front desk would of solved this I reckon, catch 22 though isnt it cause you would expect it done but receptionist wouldnt know/realise its needing changed. You know it needs changed but would your average punter? Would be easier if it was a requirement at that service, easier all round?

Re: Stilo Servicing - the highs and lows

I do my own servicing so costs don't count but from what I've seen personally the pollen filter ought to be changed every 6 months regardless of mileage (after the summer -full of dust-and then at the start of spring-freshen it up). After all, it's got nothing to do with your mileage but how long you have the blower on and in this country lately that a lot!

The pollen filter is an option on every single service but it isn't getting done as the customer isn't being asked

At 35k the plugs are getting well worn and a new pack of plugs produces a noticeable difference.

They're both very cheap items and easy to change and i would advise forget the "approved" service schedule for those items

Re: Stilo Servicing - the highs and lows

T' PMSL re the screenwash... brings back memories of 'I only topped that up the weekend so you couldnt have gotten it in there so I want the satchet!' to be fair local FIAT dealer used to collect car and drop it back (only 3 mile up the road so courtesy car seemed point less) so hence possibly communication error.

Decks take your point about the plugs but assume they were done at 2nd 24K service but from what I read here recall they are easy enough to change oneself. What plugs would I need to go for? Any particular brand work better with 1.6 Stilos?

Sticking to approved schedule as autocare warranty on the car is valid until end sept '07 and thus not messing with it myself.

Re: Stilo Servicing - the highs and lows

Yep plugs ought to have been changed at 24k miles. Mine were still originals when i checked at 33k

These are good. Just email your car details to them as the "easy selection process" is a bit of a pain

PS changing the pollen filter won't have affected your Aircon (apart from improving the air flow) unless they punctured the evaporator. Probably just needs a top up

Hope it ain't damaged the Aircon... want to get it serviced but FIAT want £85 for a re-gas so will seek out some independent car aircon specialists here in Derby

Exactly...my point is it the customer who should request it done or should it be the reception staff 'selling' the filter to the customer who 9 times out of 10 dont want it done....dont ask me why they just dont as too many people are suspicious of dealers as it is so probably feel they are being ripped off (cause all dealers do that) despite you & I knowning it needs done)

Yeah the 'classic' screenwash,lol

Sorry, here's the link I forgot to put in

http://www.spark-plugs.co.uk/
NGK seem fine to me
Re your aircon. Try topping it up with gas yourself. It's not difficult to do

Re Pollen filter change
I think people believe that "what needs to be done will be done" on a service and I suppose that's a reasonable assumption. I can also understand why people shy away from "yet more expense" on a service even though it really does need to be changed, i reckon, at least twice per year

When mine went, the AA towed me to the garage themselves - driving on 3 [or 4] cylinders means unburnt fuel, and possible CAT damage...
