(T) Found Alarm Wiring Loom!

Was poking around in the skyport control switch bay today (the one that sits behind the front interior light & map reading lights) and discovered the wiring for the factory fitted alarm even though my Stilo was never fitted with one!



It's the 4 pin connector on the left. If your Stilo has one then you'll need to fish it out as mine was taped up a good way back into the recess (have a good look with a torch). It carries a lot of information so I can only assume it's a combined power and CAN feed. The module it plugs into carries both TX & RX ultrasonic heads, plus the switches to dis-able the anti-jacking sensor (which may be in the module too) and also the volumetric disable switch.

These switches light up at night with an amber glow and also include green LEDS to show when active etc.

That said - I still haven't got a working alarm so it looks like another module might be needed - or perhaps something needs setting with 'Examiner'.

If you've got this cable then you can buy the complete housing which includes all the above plus the skyport switches for £160 from a Fiat main dealer. Think I'll have a talk with my local dealer tomorrow and try to find out what else I need as it seems pretty clear that the car is pre-wired for an alarm.

Anyone like to suggest what the spare 2 wired plug on the right is for as its got me beat?

That 4-pin wire is indeed for the Alarm Console module, it carries +ve (red), -ve (black) and two CAN wires (high and low). I believe that all Stilo's (pre-03 definitely) are pre-wired for this. In order to complete the alarm installation, you would need to add the alarm node which goes under the windscreen scuttle plate; be warned, as this is a node, the flashing mileage issue may rear its ugly head.

The 2-pin wire is the Connect microphone feed. This wire continues down to a dashboard junction connector, D20 I think.

Best to check to see if your car has the wiring for the alarm node (with built in siren) too.

So you think there should be some spare connectors in the scuttle area - I’ll check that out tomorrow.

I guess the big question is how much the alarm node is going to be?

Right, the alarm node & integrated siren is around £80, part number is 46527912; bracket for it is another tenner. So once that is on, and the header console is on, it'll no doubt work just like any retrofitted nodes seem to; we'll only know mileage flashing once it's in. If I had more time at home I'd whack it on my mum's Stilo which doesn't have the alarm to see what happens.

If the wiring isn't there it can no doubt be wired up manually.

Be advised: there are no guarntees this will work!

Just come back from the main dealer. They said that one problem with retro-fitting the factory alarm is that even if the car is fully pre-wired for an alarm then there's no guarantee that it has the correct body computer. If it has the wrong one then it will not recognize the alarm even if every item is properly installed.

They then used Examiner to look for any alarms options on my Stilo. The logic being that if any options exist at all then the body computer will recognize the factory unit once it's fitted.

No options were found so they take the view that my Stilo wont support the factory alarm.

Personally, I'm not convinced. I take the view that if the alarm node doesn't exist (as it doesn't at the moment) then the body computer would provide no alarm options anyway.

I've decided to have a look to see if the wiring for the alarm node exists (after a bit of dismantling ). If it does then I'll risk £80 or so to see if it works!

Why not just fit an after market alarm system they are usually more comprehensive anyway I'm thinking of this option ATM just wondering if it will cause any problems with the FFE [that's Finicky Fiat Electrics]if I do Mmmmm it does help to bring the cost of insurance down and that can only be an added bonus

Phil, The factory fit job is quite a bit superior to many of the aftermarket alarms (at least the ones Fiat supply).

You get perimeter protection as well as volumetric and as you'll note from my first post - you get the nice switches to dis-able both these features should you need to.

Oddly enough, my insurance company (More Than) already gives the highest discount based on the standard Stilo security as it is now .

Fiat use Meta alarms who make dedicated alarms for Fiats.

I wish that was the case with zurich when I told them about the fiat security measures on their cars they seemed totally disinterested and got me nothing off my premium

Exactly - but IMHO they don't quite measure up to the factory fitted version If you compare the two - the installation technique is really quite different.

Why not get a quote from MoreThan as they seem to love Stilo's. I've got all the usual stuff plus full UK + European breakdown cover for something like £260

Get this! When I told them what car I was driving they said "In that case we can provide a FREE upgrade to Full Home Cover as well". Just what do you make of that!!!

You could read it that way I guess - still it's not often you find an insurance company that's in business as a charity!!!

Hey Guys - I've decided to take a break from revision and come online again!

Argonought, after the Sat Nav saga, I've learnt from FIAT Technical in Italy that your car's Body Computer is programmed at the factory (anoyone with ePER will notice BC's are ordered differently and encoded to the chassis number), and if the car didn't come with the factory alarm, the body computer shouldn't actively support it.

HOWEVER, NumanR has fitted the parking sensor node to his Stilo, and this node can be diagnosed actively on the Examiner. The only issue you will probably have is it recognising what it thinks is a "foreign body" on the CAN network and will cause the mileage to flash. The issue with this is, you'll probably need to get it to install it to see how it goes; I'm guessing that you won't be able to cure the flashing mileage as we did with the CN+ as the alarm will always be active on the network (i.e. it works with ignition off).

Although that may be a load of BS and it might work fine!

Maybe try getting a cheap one from a scrappy??
