Crash Repairs

has anyone repaired a Stilo with major damage, heard when it was launched that it had some new kind of spaceframe thet all the panels were hung off.. just wondering if body shops were set up for this kinda setup, and if it made repairs more expensive

I read from a german magazine that the Stilo is the most cheap car in its category to fix it after a crash all parts can recycled so the cost drops a lot.

I hear ya!:D I quite like (some) BMW cars, but I would never have one for fear of turning into a 'BMW Driver'. Whenever I come across an example of bad/dangerous driving, 9/10 it's a BMW. [?]

I'm not questioning their driving, it's what they're driving and what it says about them, boring, middle of the road, conservative, buy clothes at M & S, etc!

Prestige car drivers can either be really quick drivers (extremely impatient) or really slow drivers theres no middle/normal prestige driver.
Audi drivers are 9/10 really quick impatient drivers. Same as VW Bora Drivers!!

Fiat / Alfa Drivers are usually quick drivers but not stupid drivers! Even so being quick they are good drivers...

FORD Drivers though are a different matter all together!

From my experience I suggest you to stay away from them or use the Fiat power under your bonnet to get away from them ASAP!

9/10 all incidents of bad driving or erratic driving or stupid driving are always always with drivers with FORD CARS!!!

I was overtaking a lorry on a dual carriageway with a Ford Escort in front of me. We were approaching the end of the dual carriageway to return to a single carriageway... We still had this mother of a lorry to the side of us..
What do you think the Ford Driver did??

Normal drivers would accelerate and get past the lorry asap before going onto the other side of the road.
Did the FORD Driver?
NO - He decided to brake!
Bearing in mind I was still behind at this point.

I have had an incident where i was on the inside lane of a roundabout, where a Ford Focus driver was parallel with me on the opposite side to me decided to encrouch onto my lane causing me to be squashed between a high roundabout kerb and the Ford Focus...
So beingst as I own a Gorgeous Stilo with OODLES of Power... I didn't want to ruin my 17" Alloy Wheels and put my life and my cars life in danger so I accelerated effortlessly past the careless driver and took my exit.

FORD don't just make Bad Cars they make Bad Drivers too!

If Anyone is wanting a new car tell them to wait a month or two for the introduction of the Fiat Stilo Multijet's!!

Two Tone Leather ; Two Tone Dash!! mmmmmm

Deliberating whether to swap my beauty for another beauty!

:p 140 BHP!!!

Metalic Jet Blue Fiat Stilo 3 door 1.9JTD with 17" Alloy wheels ; Beige Leather interior and ConnectNAV+....
hmmmm Gorgeous!

Hi

If anyone's interested, this is on the Stilo Workshop Manual.

IMPACT DAMAGE AND REPAIRS

Special attention has been paid to the structure of the vehicle during impact tests at low speed to limiting the deformation of the passenger compartment, safety and repair costs.
The vehicle has a special feature behind the front bumpers, a robust crossmember made from a high-resistance material which can absorb all the energy from a typical impact at low speed which prevents damaging the most expensive components located inside the engine compartment. The crossmember is bolted onto both the front side members, to facilitate removing and refitting operations, and to a modular structure known as the front-end which is composed of the following modules:
- Air Duct
- Carrier on which the headlamps and other electrical components are fitted
- Air Conditioning Module
The Front-End can be replaced in one piece (if the accident has involved the entire front of the vehicle) or the various modules can be replaced separately (typical situation where parts not affected are removed). In both cases the time involved, and subsequently the labour costs, are considerably reduced compared with conventional fittings.
The vehicle also has a collapsible system for fastening the front light light clusters to the front end which retracts after an impact so they are not damaged. To repair the vehicle, simply tighten the new fastening tabs on the light casing.

The rear of the vehicle has similar features to the front:
- there is also a rigid high-resistance material crossmember that houses high-efficiency energy-absorbers by the rear side members.
- in this case, however, the energy-absorbing elements are the only components that need replacing in the case of shunts at low speed.

The particular layout and strength of the centre section of the crossmember also ensures limited damage in the case of typical impacts whilst reversing into trees or lamp-posts.

Phew!:)
