Hi, is it possible to fit cruise control to Stilo 1.9 JTD? The local South African dealers are saying NO but surely the wires must already be there....

I can get third pary cruise control systems but I want the standard Fiat Stilo cruise control.... :bang: :bang: :eek: :bang: (n)

i tottaly disagree as long as you have this plug in your steering column

all you do it buy the part for the cruise control the only problem is that they sell the whole indicator, wiper, light switch thing a ma jidge all together with the cruise control lever. THis info was discovered on the italian stilo club. We havent managed to test it ourselves here in greece yet cause its kind of expensive to get the whole control part of the steering column to try and test it but again they said the cruise control part on the alfa 147 is sold seperately and will work we just have to see who will have the guts to test it out i dunno.

I totally agree with Stilatos! ;)

Just check if you have the needed cables and plugs already fitted to your car... Then, just buy the leaver with the switches for the cruise control and plug it in! ;)

Won't the body computer have to be told that it has cruise control?
If you have the above mentioned cables and plugs already in your car, the body computer is ready to receive the cruise control switch. It is something that already has been done by Italian owners...

If so how is the cruise control held onto the stearing column??? I don't see any extra holes for screws....
You have to get another bottom column cover, which has 2 holes (one for the lights and one for the cruise control). It costs about 20€ in Greece.

interesting, nice . do let us know of your tuning progress.

But the stalk isn't atatched to the cover though is it??? You need a new bottom cover (or cut out the old one) to let the stalk through but how is the stalk held to the stearing column???? which brings me back to my original question;
is the lights and cruise control stal one or are they separate??

Cruise control is separate!

TBH, I hardly ever use it, but that may be down to roads I drive on! Sometimes, on empty bits of motorway I may have a play :p

Hey bradleyp, sorry I haven't responded sooner. If you still need it, the part number for your stalk controls + cruise is 735368252

Ok I also thought about this, but stalk and cover would come to about £200. Bloody irritating since I had a new set of stalks put on the car under warranty a few months ago, should have asked for the cruise control ones (think they are the same price!) DRAT!

EDIT: Oh and Chris, to remove it (I can check eLEARN when I get home, dossing at Uni at the mo (skipped a lecture :D)), you have to remove the battery to deactivate AirBag system, remove steering wheel & cowls, take off switch unit and replace.

Well I did and it works :D. My car was predisposed as it has ESP, so the connector was already there!

The only problem is is that the light on the dash won't come on; my local FIAT garage plugged the Examiner in, and they forced the light to come on, but it won't go on with the program. Apart from that it all works fine.

Anyone (i.e. a Tekkie) know what menu on the Examiner it's in?

£15.51 including postage (y)

Got them off ebay though so chances of them reappearing are slim. However, the Alfa 147 stalk may work as it's the same connector and looks like the same fitment to the stalk controls, and thats £40. Is SLIGHTLY different in shape so can't guarntee the fit on the plastic shrouding.

Although it depends if your car is prewired; apparently all Stilo's fitted with ESP are, if not then you'll have some wiring to do!

cruise control

hi guys iv just aquired the above (genuine fiat) i have looked behind my steering colum for the connecter for the cruise control and it is not there. i was wundering if any 1 had traced the wires from the connecter to see were they go and if it would be posible to run new wires so i could fit

thanks stripey

Re: cruise control

Right then (I was going to make a guide about this but I'm gonna need time to write that one up!), you need to check to see if you have this connector:

Predisposed Connector_Stilo.JPG

It's the one hanging to the left :p

If that's not there, let me know and we'll move on to the next step :D.

Re: cruise control

Ok next step (stripey has no connector!).

Go into the engine bay, remove the battery cover and hunt around for a brown connector with 4 wires (see attached photos). Let me know if you have it or not; have a good look because it'll make the job simpler!!!

Re: cruise control

Ok next step is to feed a wire from the steering column into the engine bay near the battery compartment. There is a bulkhead wire conduit on the drivers side A-Pillar I believe. The wire will be need to be 4-pin (2 sets of speaker cable should be ok). Please let me know your engine cc so that I can give you the correct pin out configuration!

Ta!

doin that now. wat would the next step be. do i not need a connecter block the same as the 1 in the steering colum and 1 that connects to the brown 1 in the battery casing

Basically, the situation is is that your Stilo is semi-predisposed. By that, what I mean is that these 4 cables are coming from the Engine Node, and are the feed for the Cruise Control stalk (without the +12V feed). For vehicles with ESP, this would be connected to the opposing brown connector and taken up into the steering column. However, seeing as that isn't the case, you'll need to hardwire it.

You can either chop the connector off (as long as it only has 4 wires going in, there isn't any other useage for it), or wire in-line to keep the original (yet useless) wiring in tact. The connections are as follows:

D4B (Brown Connector) ------> H7 (Cruise Control Stalk)
Pin A02 ------> Pin 1 (Green) RESUME
Pin A03 ------> Pin 6 (Orange/White) SPEED -VE
Pin A04 ------> Pin 5 (Orange/Black) SPEED +VE
Pin A05 ------> Pin 4 (Violet) ON/OFF

Connector D4B.JPG D4B Connector H7 Connector.JPG H7 Connector

Remember: The pin out diagrams for D4B are for the non-existent connector that would go into D4A (D4A is the one on your car). Although its damned obvious: the row with the wires is obviously Row A, and there is one pin not-connected (A01), then moving along the next 4 are connected, so A06 to A08 are also not connected.

All you need to do then is connect Pin 2 of the Cruise Control Stalk (Blue) to a +12V feed.

Let me know how this goes; am thinking of making up a guide, who knows!

Re: cruise control

Is the pin config the same for 1.6 engine?

Looks very easy to do. I guess the stalk simply connects the on / off to +12V for on and the inputs are push contacts to +12 V to change speeds and are normally at 0 V? This correct?

CC is something I miss in the Stilo, as my other car has it, and the Stag will have it - I have the kit.

Hey Stilo_ste

Yes that's right, main line is +12V then each feed is just a switch off that. Hence you could do it with toggle switches if you so desired!

And yes, pin configuration is the same for the 1.6 (I expect its the same for all). The only thing is is that the Dash Light will never come on; unless someone is willing to try wiring it up manually and using diodes and such . . .
