Can somebody please look at the following picture and tell me if this is the connector that means my stilo is fully predisposed for cruise control.

Thanks in advance

Good morning Stilo-mates im having some issues with the cruise control (Alfa Romeo 147 stalk) i removed the cover from my steering and i found the above connector.My Stilo is a 1.2 5D Dynamic 2002 model with ASR/MSR and all the other goodies they putted that year.Now i connected the Alfa stalk straight to the connector and the cruise control didnt worked so i cut the connectors to change the wires.Now i need a few help with the colours.

Cruise Control (Alfa Romeo Stalk)
--------------------------------

Green: Resume
Yellow: +12v
(Blank)
Orange: On/Off
Blue: + increase speed
Red: - decrease speed

Stilo White Connector (under steering wheel)
-------------------------------------------

Green: Resume
Blue: +12v
(Blank)
Purple: On/Off
Orange with Black Stripe: + Increase Speed
Orange with White Stripe: - Decrease Speed

Is this the right cable "names"?

So the obviously cable setup would be:

Green = Green
Yellow = Blue
Blank = Blank
Orange = Purple
Blue = Orange with Black Stripe
Red = Orange with White Stripe

This setup didnt worked either.

Anyone can help to fix the wire order?or had the same problem?

Re: After market Cruise control

Just bought the Alfa cruise control £39.63 plus Vat (main dealer) and proceeded to undo the three bolts fixing the lower steering cowl and then realised I have a 'lower or higher steering wheel position handle' right in the centre of the cowl. Any ideas how I progress from here?

Re: After market Cruise control

from what I can remember from removing mine, I think you have to release the steering adjustment lever and then move the coveling in a way that the steering release handle just squeezes through a hole.

Re: After market Cruise control

Hi Dave, finally saw how the cowl came off and fitted the unit. The most time spend was on cutting out a fitment slot. I had to read the handbook to see how to set the speed but it works fine. Pity about the dash indicator light not coming on but a great mod all the same.
Thanks to all who sus'd this out.

I also took a live feed from pin 17 of connector A in the cabin fusebox. First test was successful and a real joy to drive and sit back without my throttle foot twisted. As a DET I researched this alot before I committed to fit cruise control, my next project will be to make the cruise control led illuminate, I have several dash panels at work and I will be looking at possibly taking a feed from the switch to the dash directly to the printed circuit around the led. If I succeed I will post back. Thanks for this guide.
Well that certainly inspires confidence

Personally am looking for the extra comfort and hoping that the maintaining of a more constant speed will make the MPG easier to squeeze out, just not got round to buying the Alfa stalk yet... as I have had to treat the JTD to a new passenger OCS pad

it is a pain to get the cowl off and "guess" the cutout shape due to the offset stalk arm, but once fitted it does have an effect on mpg - i was seeing 18-19 average on the prestigio, now returns around 25 and upto 30 on conservative runs. presumably something related to a more efficient / constant fuel delivery.

very, very worthwhile mod to anyone who has the wiring....

Great news

Currently finding JTD driven sedately will on a run trip B do 54-57 mpg but hoping with cruise control to get the trip B's into the low 60's and pull the overall trip A tankfull average up into low/mid 50's and stop my right ankle sizing up

Re: After market Cruise control

I think cruise control can certainly work if you're a bit of a foot stabber (accelerator constantly on/off etc) but a skillful driver should, I'd have thought, be able to do better with cruise control turned off.

The theory being you allow speed to rise on down hill runs but drop off to max torque on hill climbs. Maintaining speed on hills is the real killer for fuel economy so it's critical you run the engine at its most efficient revs whilst fuel is being used to gain height.

Re: After market Cruise control

Did anybody work out any rhyme or reason as to which cars would be fully wired for cruise? I have an 03 plate 1.8 Dynamique and this seems a nice easy mod as long as you dont need to start feeding wires into the engine.

Also is it really neccesary to disconnect the battery to just remove the cowling under the steering wheel to see if the wiring is there?

Thirdly if the connector is present under the cowling does that mean the car is pre-wired? I thought I read that somebody had the connector but was still not fully wired...

TIA

Re: After market Cruise control

Great guide thanks ..have fully functioning cruise control ok no light on dash but can easy live with that at the cost of the upgrade. using a 147 cruise stalk
checked before buying the stalk that the connector at steering wheel was there ..it was, but still cautious about the wiring being different on the stalk connector on the 147 stalk to the one hidden in the steering wheel,, all I did was fit it on, screw it down with longer screw at front at the back is another screw that I fitted I got both with it and plug it in no changing of wires, took the car for a spin and hey presto all the functions work a treat, my stilo is a 53 plate 1.9 jtd multiwagon with no ASR and was fully wired bar the stalk for cruise control. cutting the bottom shroud was a 10 minute job measure, mark with pencil, cut with small hacksaw and tidy the cut-out with half round file, looks good and works even better. no more pain in the ankle on those longer drives.

Nice one

Finally got round to checking mine and I have the connector, it was taped to another bunch of wires behind the upper steering cowling so ended up not finding it the first time but after refering back to Rich's guide checked again and found it! Will be ordering the Alfa 147 Stalk tomorrow...

Anyone get a replacement lower cowling from a dealer instead of cutting it themselves? If so how much was the replacement 3 stalk lower steering cowling?

Re: After market Cruise control

remember that even if you do get the stilo lower shroud for the cut out for cruise control you will still have to trim the shroud slightly for the shroud to fit as the 147 stalk apparently fits slightly different although the functions on mine are exactly the same ..just plug in and go for me , if your handy with tools cutting your shroud is not that much of an issue, but as the guide says worth a test drive with the 147 stalk fitted before you start cutting it..I also found that mine works in other gears not just 4th and 5th as the handbook says , I did that by just having a play with it to make sure all was working as it should but will be keeping it for 5th gear long drive cruising..for sure at the cost a worthwhile mod

Re: After market Cruise control

Damn i checked in my 2002 1.6 dynamic and i do not have the connecter bahind the steering shroud, i took off both upper and lower shroud and really scoured around...surely it is not that well hidden....im so annoyed as i would have loved to do this as i do a lot of motorway driving.

I will have to check and see if i have the brown connecter near the battery...but it starts to turn into a big job then by comparison....would i also have to alter that clutch/accellerator switch now as mine is not prewired....what sort of wire would be best to used to do the job please?

anyone else have the same model as mine and same year with / without connector?
