Sorting out my stilo

Hello guys,

need some advice to help cure the tracking problems that have dogged my stilo since new(1.6 dynamic) Have tried all Fiat dealers in my area but the problem returns after about 200 miles of driving. What is the ultimate cure. Would be prepared to fit aftermarket parts if thats what it takes. Car is now out of warranty but to be honest I wouldnt trust a Fiat dealer to put a nut in a monkeys mouth correctly. Any advice would be appreciated.

thanks Phil

Re: Sorting out my stilo

What age is the car?

Funnily enough, when I first had the car, the tyre wear was abysmal! BUT since I got it laser tracked, and with Eibachs, and with 4 new tyres, I can't see any abnormal wear....

Re: Sorting out my stilo

I had mine 4 wheel laser aligned and even with the lowering and larger wheels havent suffered with any tyre wear.

Do you know what alignment process has been done on your car in the past?

But you haven't had it lowered?

Although TC had his lowered, and has problems [along with his mpg as well]

Re: Sorting out my stilo

I have found that if the car is tracked up correctly (using four wheel alignment, not just front wheel alignment) and also tracked up with the offset of the wheels corrected and the vehicle standing on turning plates, then there isnt usually a problem. But if you kerb the car or go down potholes there is a chance you can throw the wheel alignment out again straight away.

Re: Sorting out my stilo

Same with my 1.6

No matter how many times i get the tracking done, it goes again. I put 2 front tyres on mine 5000 miles ago, and the thread is showing on the inside already. Another reason why im getting rid of my car.

I'm really not sure of the cure for this... some have got it fixed under warranty.

Re: Sorting out my stilo

The cars a 02 plate. It sits on 17" alloys and is lowered 35mm front and rear. Have had the tracking 4 times in total, twice at Fiat and twice at independent garages, simply because it feels as if both front wheels are working independently of one another. Immediately after picking up the car it feels as if the problems been fixed but within 200 or so miles the problem returns, this without hitting any pot holes. Would be willing to replace all track rod ends springs/shocks if I thought this would solve the problem. I love the car and now its paid off I don't mind spending money on it as I plan to keep it til it runs no more but the above is really getting to me.

cheers Phil
