1.6 - Mind of its own?!

Now this may just be me...

Somedays my 1.6 feels faster than other days. Sometimes it revs really well and pulls through the gears quite fast and im happy with the performance. Other days it feels just a bit sluggish.

I dunno

Maybe im just outgrowing it.

Do you always use the same fuel?

Get a 2.4, then always have a smile-on.

I kinda know what you mean, i have noticed that mine sometimes feels more sluggish than others. Ive always put it down to the temp as it usually doesnt pick up so nicely when its cold.

Re: 1.6 - Mind of its own?!

know what you mean. I use decent fuels and oils and all that but for the first five minutes or so it doesn't want to "exploit its potential" and remains sluggish

Re: 1.6 - Mind of its own?!

Remember the Stilo is fly by wire, the throttle is controlled by electronics rather than a traditional mechanical wire. So if the computer thinks for whatever reason it shouldn't throttle as quick it might not, if that makes any sense?

Re: 1.6 - Mind of its own?!

my 1.6 can be a bit like that, but since only using sainsburys super unleaded
(97ron i think ) its allot smoother, picks up better and i get a few more MPG
out of it

Re: 1.6 - Mind of its own?!

got to keep in mind you really shouldnt be giving it some welly for the first 5 / 10 minutes and the management systems are probably protecting the engine a bit from that

Re: 1.6 - Mind of its own?!

The weather makes a bid difference to the performance, low humidity, cooler days seem to be best, I guess its the best type of air.

Many manufacturers place the air intake as low a possible because that is where the air is coolest, and results in increased performance and efficiency; creates havoc when driving through a ford though.

I know what you mean, them bloody Focuses are everywhere!

Mine does it too, just remember though, you shouldn't really be booting your car till the engine is at full operating temperature and the oil is fully around the engine. They don't seem to like running with no/very little oil around the system, no matter how good the oil is...

Re: 1.6 - Mind of its own?!

I've always thought my Stilo warmed up amazingly fast. I get the road end to join a faster road and the engine is up to half temp (where it always goes) and whoosh i'm off! Getting the foot down!

I've tried Super-UL from Sainsbury's, couple of tanks at random times. I dont think is made my car smoother, quieter, sportier but i will say i got an extra 50miles to a tank, so it was worth it in that respect.

Re: 1.6 - Mind of its own?!

Cooler air has more oygen so you get more combustion and you notice it most on Turbo charged cars. They work better in the colder weather as they don't suffer the dreaded heat soak. So you will notice a change in performance depending on the ambient temperature.

Talking Re: 1.6 - Mind of its own?!

The Abarth does like cool weather IMO nothing makes any difference in the Panda bless it, also the drivetrain is very jerky until warmed through on the Panda....

My old 1.6 Stilo most definately had it's on/off days whatever the conditions, so maybe it's something peculiar to the 1.6?

Air is the same, its the pressure that changes! Colder day, denser air.
