Re: Stiff clutch?

A good test for lightness is see if you can push the clutch down with just your thumb.

Lubing the moving contact points around the clutch pedal connection and especially the clutch arm in the engine bay can make a real difference

Make sure the trim panel above the pedals isn't interfering with the pedal movement although that only affects the smooth moving of the pedal rather than the heaviness of it

I'd read of people stalling their 1.6 by the way and wondered what it is about it. Then I bought mine and never, ever stalled for 4 months now. Gave the keys to someone to drive it onto the ramps for an MOT and she stalled it 3 times in 2 minutes! Strewth I back it uphill out of my drive with no gas needed at all. How can anyone stall that?

Re: Stiff clutch?

you will find the clutch pedal is hydraulic,so should be nice and light.either the clutch arm is semi seized or more lightly, the pressure plate is breaking up.sounds like a new clutch kit.how many miles has the car done and how many around town?

Re: Stiff clutch?

Hi Guys n Gals,

Can anyone offer some advice on when (ie. mileage) a clutch should be replaced?

My clutch is fine, (touch wood) no slipping or weird noises but i don't want any nasty surprises as I've just clocked up 59000 miles on my 02 plate JTD!

cheers

Re: Stiff clutch?

It all depends on how you drive your car and where you drive.

The clutch in my old Punto JTD was changed after 100.000 km and had just started to slip when i sold the punto (at 210.000 km). But mind you my punto was tuned.

But you'll know when it's time to replace it (when it starts to slip).
