Re: Lowering springs

Never heard of springs falling out of place before? The general consensus is get yourself some Eibach lowering springs mate. They drop the car by about 30mm, if you want to go lower then either PI springs or Apex.

Re: Lowering springs

Go for Eibachs

I think the majority of us who have lowered have kept the original shocks on - never heard any reports of them falling out of their cups.

Re: Lowering springs

I 've got H&R springs (40mm) with Bilstein sprint shocks and steers like a train.

Re: Lowering springs

I don't think Eibach are all that good really, I've got one of their adjustable kits and even on its hardest setting, it still wallows and leans through corners. Definately not confidence inspiring(sp).

Re: Lowering springs

When I first tested out a Stilo with Eibachs on [it was Twincamms one, his 1.6], the car handled like it was on rails - I was driving, with froggie666 next to me, so he can vouch for the way I drove it

What profile tyres are you running? Believe me, when Stu & I road tested TC's car I dont think many hatchbacks would have gone quicker or tighter into that roundabout certainly my Abarth would have been undertook at the same pace!
I wonder if you're experiencing tyre roll if you have above 50 profile rubber on

Re: Lowering springs

Not being funny or trying to start an arguement but handling wise, my Stilo with the Eibach setup doesn't even remotely compare to my Mk3 Astra fitted with just Spax springs. Fair enough, my Astra has a front upper strut brace but they don't affect the cornering that much. My Astra will leave the Stilo for dust when you show it a corner or roundabout.

Re: Lowering springs

Ah, you mentioned Eibach adjustables - so presume these are cr*p compared with the normal Eibachs...

Yeah, TC was on 17s as well; no strutbrace fitted as well.

Re: Lowering springs

Sometimes some suspension kits are not the best buy for a certain make/model. A friend of mine has a 1.6 Stilo with Apex suspension kit (both socks and springs), lowered 60mm, and running on 215/45/R17, and steers worse than mine which is only 40mm low with Bilstein Sprint socks, H&R springs and running on 225/40/R18.

A good addition to a car's setup, are the wheel offsets. I 've got 10mm offset for each front wheel, and 12mm offset for the rear ones. Believe me it is a lot different when running with them!

PS: StiloSport, haven't you seen differences by changing the circumfierence of the wheel? I think that now, for example, when you are traveling with 100km/h, in the dashboard you should have about 110km/h or something like that (more than you are really treveling).

Eibach springs are just too soft and progressive for any kind of aggressive driving. I even took the Stilo back to Demon Tweeks who fitted the kit, to check if nothing was faulty. They had a mess around with the setup and admittedly, it is better but still nowhere near my Astra. The adjustables are alot better than just springs alone as the shocks are matched to the springs.

Yeah, the speedo does under-read but my Road Angel makes up for that.
