Remote Blip problem

Greetings all !
I had a slight embarresment last night, called in for a shandy on the way home from work, locked the car and left it on the car park at the pub.Came out 30 mins later and the blip didn't work !! I ended up calling the missus out and she unlocked the car with her blip.
Anyhow, I changed the battery in my blip this morning, and still nothing !
So my quetions are,
1) Is it possible for the remote to "forget" it's code and
2) if it can is there a way to re-code it ? also
3) If not how much for a new one ???

Re: Remote Blip problem

Couldn't you have just put the key in the lock, to unlock it?

Is the red light showing on the key - maybe it is the battery running low [just read that bit now, soz....]

Re: Remote Blip problem

On a slightly off topic note, what range should the remote have on it, mines pathetically low, just wondered if everyones was like that?

Re: Remote Blip problem

Does it not tell you in the manual how to unlock the car via the key? When originally activated by the fob that is!

Surely you don't want a long range! Afterall its not in a straight line, its omi-directional, last thing you want is some goit with an IPAQ stealing your code and then your car!

Re: Remote Blip problem

Yeah M8, it probably does tell you in the manual how to get in without the remote. BUT it's not a lot of use when the manual is locked in the car and you've got a siren howling in your ear'ole and a pub full of spectators ! LOL

Aye, I whole-heartily agree - after reading up on my new car alarm I realised its not a good idea having a long key fob range... and in fairness what would the ability to unlock and lock your car from a distance have - unless your inspector gadget my arms can only reach so far

Go to the car > press key on remote > use hand on end of arm to use handle on door > get in car > close door, then open door > get out > close door > press key on remote to lock again

I dont see the need to unlock my doors from 10 meters away, unless of course I want my car stolen while I accidently lean on the key fob whilst in my pocket while I watch TV in the house

Re: Remote Blip problem

On that point, to get into the car with the key, do you not put the key in the lock, turn one way (i forget which), then turn the other, this unlocks the car, reach over to glove box, open glove box, retrieve manual. Get out of car and lock with key! Tada, you have manual! Which probably says something like unlock car with key, use key in ignition within x number of secs!

Dunno, some folk don't know their born!

Alternatively phone the wife to bring the other key, which will only work if you've got a Dynamic model (i think) which has 2 remote fobs!

Re: Remote Blip problem

Only one remote with the active model and one "manual" key (bloody tightfisted fiat)

So, if the same thing happens to me then my spare key will set the alarm off anyway

1) Yes, it is - I had this happen to me on my previous Abarth. Worked one minute and then not the next - new battery fitted and still nothing.

2) Probably via the 'Examiner', I suspect.

3) Dunno, as mine was replaced under warranty - and in doing so they had to replace the other one as well.

Just as I feared............
AND the extended warranty specifically excludes alarms and imobilisers

Re: Remote Blip problem

1)Sure you never dropped it in your shandy
2)Read the manual before you drive the car or as soon as,thats what they are for!
3)Examiner can reprogramme the remote,if it cannot then need new remote.Could also quickly use a IR/radio remote tester, most technicians have one...all it does is pick up the signal & flashes a LED to show a signal is being transmitted.
