Question k&n on a jtd, is it possible???

hey all, just registered to the forum but have been reading the threads for a while now. very informative. i have just bought a new 05 stilo sporting 1.9 jtd in mourano blue. will post a picture when i figure out how to do it lol! my question is is there a k&n available for the petrol versions and would it fit easy enough on my 1.9jtd? or would there be a lot of messing about? after reading most of the threads on this subject i hear 'k&n don't do it' but im more after the noise to sound out the diesel engine as a pose to the performance gain. my previous car was i 1.2 16v punto and i had a k&n on that. was very easy to fit and was well impressed with the sound. which is why im after doing the same again. ive just bought a custom back box to give the car some noise but would still like to change the air filter if i can.

ive never owned a diesel before and to be honest when i lift the bonnet i scratch my head. could you also explain in a bit more detail about adjusting the erm actuator. tried reading the thread on this one but it just lost me an the link wouldnt work.

sorry again if this is a question repeated and i know im asking alot but any replies will be greatly appreciated!

thanks, Frank.

Hi Frank

I think a visit to Angel Tuning would be in order - get that JTD tweaked right up to 155bhp and beyond

Well not sure, but i'd definately reccomend the remap!! And it doesn't invalidate your complete warranty. If they found out about it..it would just invalidate the parts changed. Most garages wouldn't even realise the car was remapped!

Hello & welcome to the forum! TBH the general consensus is that a CDA is better than the K&N 57i kit & is not that much more expensive. If you're not sure what you're doing about the actuator leave it alone! As for the remap I think it's about £300 plus Nige usually charges travel expenses. The remap is virtually untracable which means you don't have to tell your insurers & it won't invalidate your warranty, hope this helps!

Re: k&n on a jtd, is it possible???

thanks for that. when you say virtualy unctracable, doesnt their diagnostic computers pick it up? i hear what your saying about the cda but k&n seem an easier fitment and like i say im just after the noise more than performance from it. the remap sounds more and more tempting though!!!

had my new backbox fitted today, a custom stainless, and got them to take the rear silencer out. doesnt seem to be that much louder but i dont know if thats just because i can hear the engine????

he said he could lower it 30mm aswell, just new springs, for £153. that sound a good price?

oh and how do you get pics on the thread? (you know im not normally full of this many questions lol)

Re: k&n on a jtd, is it possible???

Very nice! Definately needs lowering & I'd also suggest a strutbrace for sharper handling & steering. On the remap front it would take someone who really knows the diagnostics computer to be able to find it!

What springs have you been quoted on? Eibachs?

As for difference, both mine remapped [the 2.2JTD and 2.4], and never been noticed before.

Eibach's are the springs of choice for almost all cars i'd say
