Engine Fault - No Consumption figures from Body Computer

Had a friend of mine change the oil in my Stilo about 350 miles ago (while I upgraded his PC - as you do ). He's a good lad, looked after my Brava and owned a Marea himself, worked for a motor servicing chain etc.

I told him 'you only need about 3 litres of oil' (it's a 1.2) before he did it, and he told me 'it might be a little bit full' after he'd done it. It got to be a late night etc. and I just put all the gear in the shed when I got back.

Suffice to say after a few tootles round town - first longish run it gets (about 100 miles) everything seems hunky dory. Came to turn it on the next day and 'Engine Fault' pings up on the dash. I did have this happen in winter once, (used to happen on the Brava too - injector light came on and it was usually a dry connection on the electrics, light smearing of grease and bingo, everybody's happy) so it was sorted easily.

So adopting this approach, nothing amiss , investigated the dipstick and it's over full with oil. Dropped about three-quarters of a litre through the sump and the level is in the middle of the range. (There was just under 4 litres missing from the tub in the shed.) Had another little drive and hoped it might clear.

It hasn't and when I flicked on the trip computer I get no figures for consumption (instant and average). So, before I drive any further or before I waste time with a Fiat dealer, has anyone had a similar experience?

I need to know what to look for as signs of overfilling causing problems and how to try anything simple to see what's causing the consumption readings to go missing. Everything else on the car is sweet, so unless it's a coincidence, I guess the two may be related. Anyone's advice would be appreciated.

When i overfilled my bravo, smoke started bellowing out the back, i drained the oil and drove the smoke out for a few miles and its been fine since... the lack of trip computer info I cant see being related...

Maybe it is...

May find that tomorrow, all the consumption figures spring back to life....

How many miles is a few miles, Paul?

I've done about 45 since dropping the excess oil. Never noticed any smoking or anything untoward until I had the fault light.

It hasn't moved today, looks about as sad sat there as I am (not driving it)!

Maybe I dislodged something looking at the electrical contacts, so I'll look them over again in the morning.

I guess it's helpful if I say this was resolved, turns out it was a faulty inlet manifold pressure sensor and it was replaced under warranty.

Inlet manifold pressure sensor was probably contaminated by oil after overfill, this is the same thing that happens to the 1.6 models, a simple clean would have cured it.
