Lightbulb Steering recall- Campaign 4968 on 1.8 and 2.4 variants

This campaign/recall involves 1.8 and 2.4 stilos from the start to chassis number 00436250, and is to do with excessive clearance in the steering rack, leading to noises and loss of steering when parking .

Seen some threads that are sort of related to this, and if you've paid out for this repair, you could get your money back if you make an issue of it.

This has only been started in the last 2 weeks, so you might be getting a recall letter from FIAT soon, if your in the chassis range.

Re: Steering recall- Campaign 4968

Hi.

I've emailed my dealer (JCS Kegworth) and asked for advice. They've read my email but not yet replied. Will keep the forum updated when / if I get a response.

Cheers,

Re: Steering recall- Campaign 4968

I received a recall letter about a month ago. I took the car back for the dealer to check. Needs to have parts replaced which are now available so it is booked in for tomorrow to have them fitted.

Yeah I thought that too - rechecked the chassis no and it definately starts 398. I thought my Stilo had been specially built for me on order - could it have been in a field for months?

Exclamation Re: Steering recall- Campaign 4968

Hang on, now I'm REALLY confused !

Stu, do you really mean 58XXX as in 58-thousand?

Didn't the original quote say:

Doesn't this mean you ARE in this band as this is 000xxx to 400-odd thousand??

Mine's an 02-plate and therefore must be close to yours and has a 64xxx number, as in 64-thousand.

Doesn't this mean that mine is IN this band of chassis numbers also..?

Anybody help me out with this............ please

Re: Steering recall- Campaign 4968

Ok, maybe I am caught by it.

Had a look on the VOSA database, and even though this recall not showing, the last one for vehicles built up to 31/10/02 included chassis numbers to 199037....
