Squeak and Clunk Problems Solved (without dealer)

Yesterday being a hot as alll holy hell day brought forward the classic stilo clutch creak. And as yet my stereo aint back from wherever in outer mongolia it seems to have been sent and my lock is still clunking. All were supposed to be sorted at the time of refitting the stereo. But i couldnt be bothered waiting.

So this morning, i took a little trip up to my local auto shop after reading the forums about clutch creaking. Very good guys if your around the east end of glasgow. The Shop is Called Dunlops Auto Shop in Shettleston. Just moved to a bigger shop, got loads in the way of alloys, exhausts and stereos, even some bodykits. And always about 2 or 3 pounds cheaper than halfords up the road for the small everyday stuff like oil and grease etc.

1 Can of white spray grease £4 applied liberally to the back of the pedal and it no longer creaks, it still clicks every once in a while but so did my fiesta so i am used to it. *EDIT: Scratch that the clutch is still creaking - 4 hours later*

So onwards with the grease, i thought the clunking on the driver side lock might be it needing lubed so i went round the car and did all the hinges and locks. All doors much smoother now. But the door was still clunking.

I accidently touched the lock and it moved, and i saw all the screws moving...HAHA! gotcha. Took another trip up to Dunlops Auto Shop (plug plug) they had the set of torx allen keys i needed. They even let me try before i buy. Tightened it all up and thud a nice clean door close and a very Happy Chris No grubby arnold clark monkey paws near her today! PHEW

Will be having a word with arnold clark about said loose lock, does anyone know if the lock would need to be touched to fit a window regulator?. Because i will be going right throught them if it turns out they didnt refit the lock properly! Those bolts were too loose to have just worked themselves out.

Time for a spin

Clutch creaks because the white plastic ball cap retainer breaks.

I presume this is a common fault that the dealer monkeys will know how to fix? Happy i got the lock fixed anyway

As a 'dealer monkey' I can tell you it will be sorted under warranty(it's pig of a job!)but takes a while to do it.You could always leave a few bananas on the passenger seat though as a bribe to get it done quicker

Re: Squeak and Clunk Problems Solved (without dealer)

I know all dealer mechanics aren't monkeys, the techs on this forum have been really helpfull But my dealers can't even tighten 3 bolts on a lock when they are stripping down a door (not even hand tight). The creak has gone again this morning as has the click. I think it may just have been a hot weather thing and a bit of metal expanding.

Called the dealer this morning and the CD Player is getting completely replaced and they are just waiting on it being delivered. They said it should be a couple of days.

Dealers are still variable.

I asked for mine to be looked at at the 24k service and they told me they had greased the mechanism. Needless to say it didn't stop creaking.

The car was in at a different dealer for some other warranty stuff and they fixed it properly.

D'oh. It'll probably start creaking again on the way home tonight.

Re: Squeak and Clunk Problems Solved (without dealer)

When it gets fixed under warranty, is it using a better part thats not going to break again or is it just the same part that could go again in another 1500 miles.

Never had one come back so can only assume it's stronger (thicker?) plastic. Is it just my big feet or do yo ufind there is little room around the pedal area,I keep catching something with tips of my shoes in any stilo I go in!

Yup a little cramped, my gear changes are smoother in trainers and shocking in my Doc Martens. But im used to driving a fiesta so its not just as cramped as i used to be.

Reminds me of my first driving lesson in a renault 5 wearing huge doctor martens boots, done about 1 mile when the instructor told me to get out as I was gonna crash(my shoes hit both gas & brake at same time or clutch & brake ).......the instructor was me old man by the way
