Question Modifying Stilo JTD

I'm planning to get a Stilo JTD Dynamic soon, and i will be modifying it...

Angel Tuning remap, and exhaust = 170bhp? what about air filter as well? about 175bhp?

Does it matter which one i do it first? i heard that doing the chip/remap at last is better? so it recognise the new mods?

anything else i can do cheaply to get to 200bhp?

also its true that it rides a bit high, how much is the eibach springs? is that enough to sort out the handling?

one last thing...the main beam lights is H1? if not what is it?

many thanks

Re: Modifying Stilo JTD

Hello welcome to the forum. Firstly you shouldn't really look for cheepness when modifying. The Eibachs lower the car by 30mm & cost about £157 although I got mine for £133 . A BMC carbon dynamic airbox is the way to go on the induction side & supersprint exhaust they are both expensive but are tuned by the manufacturers to the car (you'll have to get a universal CDA as they only make a proper kit for the abarth) if you can afford it go for the Bilstein sportline kit though it lowers the car by 30mm same as the Eibachs but in the kit you get gas shocks which have a better rebound rate.
Also I would advise getting an OMP strut brace this will knock out any chassis flex which will give you a lot more feel through the steering & helps counteract any understeer. You can pick up one from www.strutbracer.co.uk for around £60. One other mod you can do at home is to turn the actuator a couple of turns this will increase boost giving extra BHP.

Re: Modifying Stilo JTD

The actuator is located either on or next to the turbo by tweeking it you could extract a few more BHP! perhaps 5bhp. It's what we used to do with the Volvo T5s. I'll find a diagram & post it up here. Be warned though I wouldn't go any more than 2 turns.

Re: Modifying Stilo JTD

Try this link it's quite a detailed view of an internal wastgate actuator:

You should also be able to fit a bleed valve which again controls the amount of boost.

Re: Modifying Stilo JTD

thx for the quick replies =]

about the BMC carbon box...they abit expensive?...anyone fitted a pipercross or K&N cone filter?

the standard exhaust seems facing down and at an angle, will changing just the backbox straighten the exit so it looks more 'normal'?

shall i do all the engine mods first then remap? or it doesnt matter which mod i do it first?

apart from eibachs any other alternative brands which gives similar quality but cheaper?

also the headlight...main beam is H1 bulb?

i know i shouldnt look at prices when modding...but if i can get something similar but cheaper why not? right?

Re: Modifying Stilo JTD

Hi

I don't think you can fit a CDA to the JTD?! BUT I have one on my 2.4 petrol, and so does Jasper, and I can highly recommend it.

As for order of engine mods, speak to/email Alfanige, especially seeing that you want the 170bhp doing [it deffo needs the exhaust sorting first, before remap].

I also have Eibachs?! Why do you want to comprimise by going for a 'cheaper' brand.

Re: Modifying Stilo JTD

right..now i know remap should do last
also i think the same as u...a bit scared that CDA wont fit to JTD...thats why i looked at pipercross and k&n

1 more thing...

remap + exhaust(backbox or full system?) = 170bhp?
or remap + air filter = 170bhp?
or remap + air filter + exhaust(backbox or full system?) = 170bhp?

i'm quite new here...so do u guys know anyone had this done on their JTD?

Re: Modifying Stilo JTD

As I said, speak to Alfanige - I am certain that the 170bhp remap needs a full exhaust system, but he will confirm, plus advise you on other mods needed.

Actually I'm going to contradict myself from an earlier statement but I wouldn't bother with an exhaust. If you want something for show then a backbox will do. The reason I'm saying this is because a performance exhaust only really works on a normally aspirated engine because on a turbo charged engine the exhaust gases are almost used up by the turbo.
Also if you read my previous post I did actually advise a CDA universal kit as they only make a proper kit for the abarth but you should be able to fit a universal one.

Re: Modifying Stilo JTD

I can't find the thread I guess it's too old but this modified stilo is a JTD & I'm certain that it had a CDA fitted.

Re: Modifying Stilo JTD

Ok, the 155 remap does not need a new exhaust; however, the 170 remap does.

Wasn't aware of the universal kit - but how does it work on a diesel? Anyone got one on? I know mine only cuts in to full effect from 4000rpm to redline.....

I was hoping you'd be able to find that old thread.

Re: Modifying Stilo JTD

Quite simply... The remap alone can take the JTD to silly amounts on its own and is only restricted by the manifold and cat. you dont need a CDA to up the power as you can do that with the remap. By all means buy one as a package off us - but we will tell you now not to as you are wasting your money.

I run a 2.4JTD with a CDA and we also fit them to a lot of other diesels too, they are very good. Dont for Gods sake bother with anything with the letters N or K written on it!

As for the 2.4 CDA being the only "proper" kit, thats not really true as the only difference between the CDA SP05 and the CDA 85-150 that we fit to everything else is the shape of the plastic inlet on the intake side - i.e. absolutely no difference to the actual bit that does the job.

As to the way round to do it... If you are wanting to go the whole hog then you will have to do the exhaust first as the 155+ will cause you problems. If you want to do it in stages we will do the 155 for you now, then up it to 170+ when you have the exhaust done for a couple of beers if you come to us. The time to buy the CDA is when you have the 170+ remap done.

If I can help further, just give us a ring, 01926 614027
