Post Had a towbar fitted

I had a towbar fitted by Fiat yesterday, and I was very surprised that they connected the electronics to the wires going to the right rear light cluster. All they did was bridge the wires. If I knew it was going to be that easy to fit the towbar, I would have done it myself and saved the money I had to pay for the labour.
In previous threads about towbars somebody commented that relays and fuses need to be installed when adding a towbar to a Stilo :
http://www.fiatforum.com/showthread....ghlight=towbar
Being curious about where Fiat would install all of this I stood by while they did the installation, and ... they did not install any additional fuses or relays
When I asked the technician about this afterwards he said that they have insalled towbars on a couple of Stilos, and had never installed any additional fuses or relays, and it works fine without it.
I was a bit sceptical, so when I got home, I connected my Jetski trailer up to my new towbar, and to my surprise IT WORKED! No error messages, no warnings...

Re: Had a towbar fitted

They should have at least installed a buzzer, without a buzzer your technically an mot failure.

If you just had a single electric kit installed there in nor eal need to do anything other than jump off the light. Only when you have double electrics to power caravan water/light does it get more complicated.

Re: Had a towbar fitted

Those buzzer things are the most annoying things in the world We used to tow a caravan to France with a Nisssan 4x4 every year and could hardly get any sleep on the journey. Every lane change- BEEP BEEP BEEP :shakehead

Isnt there a light on the dash that comes on instead? Thats a much better idea.
