Loss of power at cold start up

I have only had my Stilo 5 Days - In the morning from a cold start up - It has no power in first - I have to pull out on a busy main road and this morning, when I put my foot down it just crawls out slowley then speeds up at 3000 revs (ish) - Is this normal?? - when the car has warmed up abit its fine - I was wondering if this was some cold start anti thrash thingie to stop you over reving the engine when its cold (and Damn its cold in the mornings atm).

Any help out there ?

Bo

Re: Loss of power at cold start up

Mine's the JTD Multijet (diesel) so i guess i can't really compare but even though i must say that my engine is noisier and less smooth in the morning but still has just about all the power.
I suppose that if the fitted dome anti-cold-thrashing device on an engine thy would have them on all engines, especially teh diesels.

Re: Loss of power at cold start up

Cant say ive ever noticed this before! Maybe if you let it run on your drive for a few minutes before pulling away to let the engine get slightly warmer and lubricated!

Re: Loss of power at cold start up

Just feels ... wrong really - the car is great once its warmed up abit - but driving it first mile or so is it seems slugish - espesh in first gear and in the rush hour I need it - I have no wish to thrash it, its just it feels like my 1.2 punto for the first 5 mins of the drive.

In fact thinking about it ... It feels like a Big Flat spot - Anyone?

Re: Loss of power at cold start up

Not really noticed - I pull out of my driveway each morning quite early [i.e. car still frosty], and have a half mile straight stretch of country lane in which to semi-boot it out. Never felt any lose of power as such......

Re: Loss of power at cold start up

Its a shame im skint (I just bought a car you know ) I am interested in a ecu Remap - I hear they are great for ironing out flat spots.

This is not normal though by the looks of it, the car has just had a 42K service - Cars still in warrenty, is it worth getting fiat to have a look?

Re: Loss of power at cold start up

Oh yes, a remap is great for that - gives the car the map that it should have had to begin with, but didn't due to market forces.

If FIAT look at it, what will they say or find? Why not go and test-drive another 1.6 Stilo from somewhere, and see if that is the same.

Re: Loss of power at cold start up

I thought Angel didn't have a remap for the 1.6 yet?

I can say my 1.2 doesn't feel down on power when its first started. In fact i find it hard not to wheel spin a bit on the damp frosty roads in the morning.

Re: Loss of power at cold start up

It does seem this is not normal ? - Any ideas what could cause it to happen?

I had a BMW 318IS Coupe that did much the same thing - Never really got to the bottom of that ?

Maybe my stilo dont like the cold (I sure don't), I thought the 1.6 Remap was available - looking at angels site - Maybe its not - Bugger

I'll warm her up abit before i set off ... Hopefully shes ok.

Re: Loss of power at cold start up

My last car went like this- cold lame. Due to a faulty sensor playing havoc with the choke when engine was cold and cold outside.

I could trundle along doing 30 in third with my foot flat to the floor then all of a sudden, BAM the power came back and off we went.

Being a student i didnt fix it, i just lived with it...

Re: Loss of power at cold start up

If u have a remap done, does Fiat notice when you take it in???? Is there any problems with the MOT??? A part from the more power and a more progressive push what other efects does it have??? Consumption??? Engine durability????
Ive even heard that if it's a diesel you can make it smoke a lot(and i hate that blak smoke), is this true???

Re: Loss of power at cold start up

Nope, the remap is not able to be picked up by Examiner!

As for MOT, the emissions should still be within the tolerances, so can't see that being an issue either.

Consumption - you should end up with a better MPG, but again all down to how you drive the remapped car - if you put your foot down more, then fuel consumption will go up accordingly, remap or no remap.

The remap may take a bit of life of the engine [see Angel Tunings FAQs on their website], but is this really relevant? Are we really going to run our cars up to 200k miles?

Re: Loss of power at cold start up

What if i get a remap i won't be able to do 200k in it! That was my plan.... why buy a Fiat if you only plan on doing 30,000 miles in it!

As for letting the engine warm before you drive off, most manufacturers recommend you don't do this, does more harm than good. Apparently!
