Automatic Wipers & Headlights

Does anyone find these two things work well enough?

The lights are just about OK but no good in mist and before its completly dark in the evenings.

The wipers are OK in rain but completly useless in drizzle screen can be covered and it won't wipe untill the rain speeds up.

The sensor is clean for the rain sensor, where is the one for the lights?

Re: Automatic Wipers & Headlights

I tend to ignore the Auto lights on mine, and just used dipped beam - I find when I have AUTO on, I can't go to full beam, which is weird. So I have to turn switch round to dipped anyway. Bizarre.

I agree about the wipers, but recently I now adjust the sensitivity on the right hand control - this seems to work, although still need to flick wipe occasssionally, especially in drizzle or when spray from the roads after a storm.

Can't recall where light sensor - need to look at car, lol.

Re: Automatic Wipers & Headlights

I think the same sensor is used for the lights and the wipers - I need to double check that (could be on door mirror)!

I also find the auto wipers a bit naff - tend to have to speed them up in drizzle, and turn them off when the screen is smeary as they go bezerk!

I too stopped using auto lights when I realised it had a mechanical lock preventing full beam to work - for a long time I thought stalk was faulty until someone on the forum told me otherwise!

Re: Automatic Wipers & Headlights

The funny thing is, I have same setup on Ulysse, and the whole lot works perfectly [well, less bad ] - the sensors are placed differently, however.

I wonder if mine is bonded to the screen properly - difficult to know. I'm loath to have it looked at unless it is definitely not working - mind you I have a crack in the screen now so maybe I'll have no choice in the matter

Re: Automatic Wipers & Headlights

There has been some issues with the sensor not being bonded correctly, and therefore misreading.

If screen cracked, why not get it replaced under insurance? Just avoid Autoglass

Actualy the first time is has rained in two weeks and the wipers work pretty well, nice feature.

They just don't deal with water when its not raining enough very well.

Hey Stuart, It helps if you read the Manual
tells you in there about the physical lock on full beems when set to auto
I happy with the auto wipers but agree when its like road spray it sometimes doesnt trigger

Spain
Re: Automatic Wipers & Headlights

A part from the fact that u have to activate the auto wipers every time you start the car mine seem to work quite well though living in spain i don't get much of a chance to try them, it's only rained twice since early December!!!!
The lights work perfectly well, i have mine on minimum sensitivity and they de perfectly, nevr have to touch them.
As for the sensor i think its just above the rain one.

Yeah, exactly, a physical lock that I find awkward to use, therefore I would rather use lights on normal mode - I find this weird [compared to Ulysse, where AUTO lights on all the time, and FULL beam can still be obtained]

At the moment the crack is only about a cm long, so I'm not too worried. If it gets worse I'll get it done, but at the moment its not worth paying the £50 with possibility of them f****** something up in the process of replacing it!

If Stu has the same version of manual as me, then reading it is no help - I read it several times and couldn't understand what on earth it meant (think they lost something in the translation from Italian). Having gone back to the manual after being told how it works, I could just about understand what they were trying to say. Maybe they've corrected the manual now!

Paul

BTW - The manual for the SatNav+ is even bigger than the manual for the car, and it takes hours to read them because pretty much every section applies to the Selepeed Abarth

Thats a safety feature, mainly aimed at cold countrys where there maybe ice on the window. its basicly to stop the wipers trying to move at switch on if they are iced into position.
That should be in the manual too
