Re: whats best oil for arbarth

Selenia 20K is a full Synthetic AFAIK, which is what is recommended by FIAT, and should be used by the dealers.

I would expect (though I've not checked) that the oil your using has a different viscosity to the full synthetics.

Re: whats best oil for arbarth

No. 99% of cars are made to run on semi-synth, and probably 10w-40. Im using Selenia 20k, this is semi-synthetic. The coop loves it. You can also get Selenia Racing which is fully synth, but it is a tad more expensive and the forum guys seem to prefer the 20k so Good enuff for them, good enuff for me!

use this link and phone AA if interested in 20k it's good stuff and made in italy too !

I paid £47 for 10 litres which is very good. (delivered)

Re: whats best oil for arbarth

This is part of an e-mail, from the guy named at the bottom that I got in reply to the same question about which oil to use. He seemed to be saying that the oil to use is Selenia Performer at 5w30. I had been told by a dealer that Selenia 20K would cause damage to my engine and Fiat would viod the warranty. I am still not certain which to use. My dealer in Chelmsford uses Castrol.
04 Stilo Active Sport 1.6 16v Techno Grey

"Selenia 20K is a semi-synthetic product and the original factory fill engine oil, Selenia Performer is also a semi-synthetic product but is a new low viscosity "fuel economy" version for the latest generation of multi-valve engines, and as recommended by your Fiat dealer, this product will provide the best overall protection when we consider the UK climate and the added benefit of improved fuel economy."

Re: whats best oil for arbarth

I was told & sold by dealer Selenia 20K. Doesn't the handbook say to use it too?

Re: whats best oil for arbarth

That's what the handbook says but when I asked my dealer for oil he gave me Performer, when I questioned it I was told by him that the hanbook was wrong. That's why I contacted Fiat UK and the oil firm FL Oils GB and also The Fiat rep that works at my firm plus a second dealer. They all differ in their advice apart from the first dealer and FL Oils GB.
I am still confused.

Re: whats best oil for arbarth

They can't not honour the warranty if you follow the handbook...surely?

Re: whats best oil for arbarth

I had an e-mail from a Fiat rep saying that I should use 20k when I showed this to the dealer he said that I would be wise to hang on to it for proof if I was going to use 20k as Fiat would void the warranty. He backed this up by calling a fitter over who repeated the same thing.

I was told Selenia 20K by the dealer when I picked the car up..he also pointed out that it states the oil to use on the underside of the bonnet/hood.

Re: whats best oil for arbarth

Does this so called warranty-voiding apply to all FIATS?

We had the Ulysse serviced recently by main dealer, and I can assure you that Selenia was not used by them.

Plus I got two service invoices for the Abarth - I will look at home later, and see what oil was used in that.

Re: whats best oil for arbarth

My dealer in Chelmsford uses Catrol GTX Magnatec. He was the one that told me Fiat do not ship their cars with synthetic oils. Yet another strange fact from a dealer.
