Squealing noise

I've noticed in the last week a squealing noise coming from the nearside rear wheel. It can only be described as a high pitched squeal. You notice it when your going slow most often. I'm wondering whether the breaks are binding on a bit. I've tried pulling on the handbrake while going slow to to see if it frees it up but it just keeps coming back.

Anyone any thoughts before I take it to a fast fit place for a quick inspection?

Cheers

Talking When I drove.........................

Stus Abarth, it was squealing like hell, but it was coming from all four tyres!

(joking aside, his car had terrific tyre screech even at low speeds, strange)

Re: Squealing noise

Hey... yeah it does sound like that your brakes are binding on, when you drive?! can be caused by many thing usual happens from doing many handbrake turns, the brakes get stuck! Well thats what happened when i had my punto! You could trying freeing it your self and maybe lubing up the pad! Or what can free it, is when it when you hear it happening stick it into reverse; and reverse down the road for abit! Usually throws the pad off, you get my drift!

Well i dont know if thats any help, maybe an idea to think about trying!

Re: Squealing noise

back when we first got the stilo, we mentioned the noise and they where going to check the sub frame out. but noticed that the handbrake cable had worked itsway loose under the car and was making the noises as it was hitting something while going around corners. they tightened that up and the noise was gone

thanks for the replies. I'll give the wheel a closer inspection when it's light to see if I can do anyhting about it first before taking it in.

Yes indeed, more pronounced on certain roads than others as well.

I think when I come to change tyres [I think I got three different brands on atm, but wearing fast after a few 0-60 tests], I will get some soft compound ones PLUS have my tracking laser aligned. Plus car will be lowered soon, so that may have an effect as well.

Out of interest, any other 5-door fanatics have this problem?
