| Can't Select Gears (driving school problem) just been out on driving lesson with puple in stilo 1.9jtd 06 plate. going up steep hill he hit fifth gear instead of third, then tried dropping back into second and hit forth gear. and the car stalled. from there the gear leaver as gone hard to put it into gear when it is driving the clutch is not slipping. can anyone throw a light on the problem please i have a test booked in for monday and i need a fix. thank you, ian furness.

| Re: Can't Select Gears (driving school problem) do the gears feel in the same place? (ie when the lever is in 5th its in the same position inside the car prior to your pupil doing the dodgy change?)

| Whaddya mean too old? | Re: Can't Select Gears (driving school problem) Yes there's not much to go on there. Can you clarify what you mean by "from there the gear leaver as gone hard to put it into gear" As you can guess, going into 5th and then back to 4th and stalling shouldn't cause any gear selection problems. So- Does the clutch feel normal? Is the bite point in the same place as usual? Do the gears crunch when selecting? Is the gearshift stiff to move sideways? Can you find the gear gate positions a normal?

| Re: Can't Select Gears (driving school problem) my inital thoughts are damage to clutch, but if as o/p says it feels ok im wondering if the torque was enought to twist and bend something. How does the linkage work on the stilo decks?

| Whaddya mean too old? | Re: Can't Select Gears (driving school problem) Well, does the clutch feel ok? "when it is driving the clutch is not slipping" doesn't tell us a lot How does the linkage work on the stilo decks? Pretty well usually, although it tends to seize up with corrosion and lack of use. Can't imagine that on a driving school car
