Airbag Failure, Stop Engine

Hey guys,

Got this lovely message on the way back from Wales.

"Airbag Failure, Stop Engine"

So naturally in the 3rd lane of the motorway i stopped!! (no, actually i went F.I.A.T.!!!)

Its does it now everytime i start the car with the message "Airbag Failure" and then after another minute "Airbag Failure, Stop Engine" appears!

I have looked under the drivers seat and the wires seem quite loose compared to the passenger side. I move the seat lots with kayaking kit and guess it must of come loose possbily?

Is there any way of
- a) checking which air bag is wrong (as there are 6 in total!)
- b) getting rid of the message (etc. etc.)

Could it be the OCS sensor in the seat?

The car is an 2002 3 door Dynamic and has the factory leather seats if that helps.

Cheers,
Matt

Most likely to be wiring issue at the connectors.

Its been known, but less so than the connectors.

Re: Airbag Failure, Stop Engine

Lots of post on this one. My prefered is to just solder the wires of the orange connectors but you could try giving them a squirt with electrical contact cleaner first. Take them apart and spray them then put them back together. one way to figure out which conector is the issue is to get hold of one of them and keep shaking it till the light goes off on the dash. I would personally just solder them up and live in the knowledge you wont see it ever again. Your call though.

Re: Airbag Failure, Stop Engine

Cheers for the advice guys,

So where do i actually spray the contact cleaner and how to i access the wires from under the seat. Do i need to take the seat out?

Cheers,

Re: Airbag Failure, Stop Engine

Turns out to be the airbag modulator.

£350 including VAT and labour.

EDIT: tried all above and no success so had to take it to a Fiat specialist.
