Re: replaced engine in stilo abarth wont start and it says immobiliser fault on dash

If the ECU and engine is out of a completely different car then the code from your key won't match the code that the ECU has built in to allow the engine to start. So the immobiliser thing is right. Theres nothing wrong with the engine just the codes do not match up. It's to stop people being able to nick cars even if they manage to get into the car because the key is coded and the module somewhere in the barrel i think reads the code and sends it to the ECU allowing it to start. So obviously with your ngine and ECU being from a different car...Nothing matches. Best bet would probably be to get a self learning blank ECU on exchange and it should be fine. But there wont be anything up with the engine.

I had one for my old punto off this company...or a company similar. Think it was this one. They do what are called virgin ECUs or plug and play. Uncoded ECUs. They will probably want yours sending and they will send you a reconditioned unit thats uncoded.

This is just an ebay link but it is the right people...try and get in touch with them Hope this helps.
