Low Oil Pressure - Stop Engine

I have a Stilo Dynamic 3 dr, 1.6 Petrol.

Sometimes when I start the engine I get a message on the screen saying

"Low Oil Pressure, Stop Engine"

This only happens for seconds when the engine is started, Typically after it has been left for around an hour after a longish drive.

Any others had this problem ?

I wouldn't worry - it's one of those 'Italian' things that the Stilo does - provided it just appears and then quickly goes away, it's just the car having a brain fart.

If it stays on then yes, the message is genuine.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine. Probably the oil pump needs some time to get the oil circulating after startup (or so the mechanics said). Just to be on the safe side, perhaps you should add some engine oil (?) "Brain fart"... What an expression!

Hope I helped you out,
Christos

Took my car into the dealer again this morning.

The service mechanic seems to think that it is a problem with the position of the oil sensor combined eith the temperature of the oil at that perticular time.

Sounds to me as if it could be sorted with a simple software adjustment to the central computer.

Mind you, I got a very cheeky letter from Fiat customer service refuting the claim that this is a design flaw in the car or that sub standard parts have been used. Said that they had taken note of my comments but could not offer any further assistance. I think Fiat may be joining my list of cars not to buy again.

I kind of had the same problem on my Abarth, but before the message about low oil pressure started appearing, I got the message 'Engine System Failure'. It went like this on and off for about 2 weeks, until I finally had a chance to go to my dealer. They ran a couple of tests on the car, and after that, everything was fine again...

As an addendum to this, see the thread entitled "Head gasket failure" - my Stilo has occasionally flashed up the Low Oil pressure message and on taking it for its 12,000 mile service last week, I was dutifully informed that the head gasket had gone....

Dunno if this is related, but when ever I start my car after work the car starts up with an alarmingly bad diesel like growl and rattle for about 3-5 secs. It only just got noticeable about a month ago. It's just had it's 1 year service, but the oil change doesn't seem to have done anything.

Ditto to the radio thing. When it was in for service I made them take it out and RMA it as the warrantly runs out in a couple of weeks. :D Lets hope they just replace it.

Stilo, 3dr 1.8 Dy.
