Where is fuel pressure manifold?

Hi everyone

I hope someone can help me with this. I've had several break downs in my 1.6 since I got it 2nd hand in November, i get the same fuel pressure manifold fault codes each time (apart from the last time when i blew a coil! ). The car starts juddering and then when i pull over, it revs up and down until it dies.

We go through the same routine every time, AA chap takes a tiny part off the engine and spray cleans it, puts is back on and hey-presto, the car is fine for a couple of months.

He described it as "the part that tells the engine how much air to mix with the fuel". He only had to take the main cover off the engine and he'd got the part off in seconds (at this point i was going to say it was small, black and made of plastic, but that probably accounts for half of the car!)

Does anyone know what and where this little jobby is? Im going on holiday in a few weeks and really cannot afford to spend any money on my car so was hoping to just be able to clean it myself for now.

Cheers
Sally

Don't drive a 1.6 so can't really comment but if you use the Search tool you're find enough posts on this subject for a weeks reading

Re: Where is fuel pressure manifold?

this is the manifold air (under)pressure sensor which also measures the temperature of the air in the inlet manifold.
it is mounted on the back of the black plastic inlet manifold and it has a connector with 4 leads plugged in.

Re: Where is fuel pressure manifold?

reading your post again it might be you need a software update for the throttle body (known problem of the 1.6 Stilo) in combination of a throttle body cleaning.
The fault code P0105 is generated in that case which points at the underpressure sensor but there's a good chance that the software update and throttle body cleaning will solve your problem.....

MAP sensor, 1.6's need the software update if it hasn't been update already (also updates throttle body i.e. idle)

Re: Where is fuel pressure manifold?

as t14086 has mentioned you could get the throttle body update done at fiat, that will sort it,

being honest, ive not had the update done, and by doing a bit of research it is a confusion between the throttle body and MAP (manifold absolute pressure sensor) which will come up as fault code P0105,

i had exactly the same symptoms as you, irratic idle floats between 600-800 revs and never settles, plus you will get the ood time where when you come off the throttle it will bounce from 600-2000 revs about 5 times, getting closer to stalling at every bounce near 600 rpm, until it eventually stalls

you need to clean out the throttle body, a build up of residue due too the oil breather pipe being located before the throttle body (bad design IMO),

it builds up on the lip of the butterfly of the inlet, so the engine cannot get a steady control of revs,

have a look at this guide,One that decks wrote and has proven very useful to many.

i did it using a artists paintbrush with stiff bristles, just be gentle on the butterfly valve,,

just to add his was my old thread about it!
