Air con problem?

Our 54 plate 1.4 has given us a scare with the air con. One day about a year ago in hot weather, and when the car had been running about 2hrs on a journey with the air con on, we had a wisp of steam? come out of the vents. There was no smell and we switched off the aircon for the rest of the day. The problem never resurfaced until yesterday when the same thing happened after about a 1.5 hour journey. I presume its some condensation got trapped and then evaporated off, but has anyone any ideas??

I once (20yrs ago) had a similar experience with a rental car (Chevrolet) in the US but had completely forgotten that incident until this happened with the stilo.

I had a similar experience once on a journey of the same duration. It's not steam of course, but just water vapour, but I agree it's very disconcerting when it happens.

It's never happened since.

Re: Air con problem?

My (MK2) Punto did this once, it just needed the air con system re-charging. It was also accompanied with a slight hiss from the vents around the same time.

You might notice the air con not being as cool as previously too. It's not usually expensive or complex to put right tho.
